Tragedy happened when the sisters were seven year old. Her father took her to a place of safety on Uyter, promising to come back, which he did a few times before he was killed.

Serah never met her family again, longing to reunite with her twin she believes is still out there. The family of farmers who had been sheltering her thankfully decided to adopt her as their own. Serah had helped at the farm since she arrived there. Due to her Miraluka genes, her eyes are useless and she has altered perceptions of her surroundings thanks to her gift in the Force, though it has never been trained. The Kleors always told her to keep it quiet too so she wouldn't get in trouble if discovered. A decent hunter, she also excelled in some mechanical work, especially regarding farming equipment and some terrestrial vehicles.

Following an uncanny encounter on Uyter, she pledged to follow the way of the Jedi and travel to Ossus. Once there, she wasn't sure how to fit in at the Jedi Enclave, despite the certainty she was meant to be there. While intrigued and somewhat willing to formally train, she generally stayed on the outskirts of the Order, choosing to mostly help with some mechanical maintenance, through which she met Private Aliya Karcsi.

One day, Serah's twin showed up on Ossus, conforting the young woman that she had made the right choice. Her reunion with Suri was a dream come true and both sisters had had to adjust to their new life together.
