| Varyan is the sole heir to King Firenzo Starfallen and his wife Queen Denara, on Albaryn, although the Starfallen House remains a large family. He grew up to become accomplished both in court and on the battleground.
Despite hours of sword training, the future King never showed prowess with such weapons, favoring unarmed combat, archery and blaster shooting instead, much to his family's dismay. Yet, his grandmother who had been a wise and daring ruler, saw that his uniqueness could make him a great monarch when the time came.
A murder attempt on his mother when he was young led him to be assigned to keep watch over the royal kitchens and he developed an outstanding talent for baking.
When his father was plagued by illness, Varyan became King in his place. Although he was crowned young, the poor leadership exhibited by his parents had begun taking a toll on the Tainarian system, and he had vowed to do better and to help his home world and its moons flourish and become more active within the Alliance of Free Planets.
Albaryn began to build political ties with Onderon for the two planets had similar values and visions for their people' wellbeing. His childhood friend Alice Di Scarra got the opportunity to become Commander of the Royal Guard, and the King began what would become a close friendship with Queen Adraudia. This led to him agreeing to provide her with an heir to the throne. When the Queen became pregnant, he gifted her and the child lands on Albaryn as a token of appreciation. He also sent the Queen a young lady from a notable Tainar family. whose loyalty to the Starfallen went back generations ago. to become one of her Royal Handmaidens.
During one of his visits to Onderon, Varyan was introduced to Senator Naome Ardsul from Bortras, by Ashar Nerofi, Senator of Onderon.
