Owned by the sovereign Kuat of Kuat, Kuat Drive Yards is a vast industrial corporation that is the foundation of the Kuati economy, Operated out of the vast shipyards that provide Kuat with an artificial planetary ring. Prior to the Clone Wars they were part of the Techno Union, but left the commerce guild and provided the majority of the military hardware for the Grand Army of the Republic: a prominence that continued long into the era of the Galactic Empire.

In addition to the shipyards at Kuat, administered by Kuat Freight Port, Kuat Drive Yards also established construction and repair facilities across the Republic and Empire, including in the Corporate Sector, and at Allanteen Six. Kuat Systems Engineering was a subsidiary that produced shuttles, freighters, and fighter craft; including the starfighters used by the Jedi Order during the Clone Wars. Kuat Leisure produced luxury star yachts for an exclusive market. Kuat Vehicles - via subsidiaries such as the Mekkun Corporation, Rothana Heavy Engineering, and Ubrikkian Industries - produced a variety of military walkers, repulsorcraft, and airspeeders.

Following the Alliance-Imperial Treaty, Kuat Drive Yards was cut off from a number of it's subsidiaries and facilities in the Corporate Sector and the Outer Rim Territories!Outer Rim. Expecting the Alliance of Free Planets to impose punitive taxation as a way of impairing the Empire's military industry, Kuat Drive Yards chose to sell off the subsidiaries that it could no longer access. Rothana Heavy Engineering and Ubrikkian Industries were both purchased by the Ouishii Kajidic, part of the Hutt Cartel.
