History
|
Tyree was already a veteran pilot, and a Major in the Republic Navy when the Clone Wars broke out. However, with the influx of Clone troops to the battle, many of the "less expendable" veterans were reassigned into strategic and tactical roles, to make better use of the more valuable life skills that they had gained and Clone fodder hadn't. Vansen himself was assigned as the Tactical Officer supervising the V-19 Torrent Wing aboard a Venator Star Destroyer, putting him in oversight of 192 fighters and their pilots. The assignment lasted until his Star Destroyer was severely damaged; while repairs were effected many officers were reassigned, and Tyree himself was offered a post as Executive Officer aboard one of the new Victory Star Destroyers.
After the war, Tyree was absorbed into the Imperial Navy; he eventually earned command of his own Victory Star Destroyer, before eventual reassignment to one of the newer and more formidable Imperial Star Destroyers. It was aboard this latter command where Tyree served out the remainder of his career; ironically it was on the surface when his career ended, after he lost an eye in a scuffle with protestors outside a Rendili Navy Yard in the wake of the destruction of Alderaan. Already unsettled by the planet's destruction himself, he chose to use the medical grounds to retire from service, and settled down into what he hoped would be a quiet life on Thalia.
After the Battle of Endor, the Rebel Alliance found itself in need of experienced veterans to replace its losses. Vansen was approached and, after quite some convincing, was drafted to serve within the Rebel fleet. He first commanded the Valiant, an MC40a Star Cruiser assigned to hit-and-run operations against Imperial supply lines along the Hydian Way. He was later reassigned to assume command of the Horizon, an old Victory Star Destroyer "liberated" from the scrapyards of the Corporate Sector. After extensive upgrades and restoration, he commanded the Horizon as his flagship in Task Force 75, assigned to interdict Corporate Sector convoys trying to use the Perlemian Trade Route to evade The Independents.
Following an increase of Rebel forces defending The Wheel however, he transferred his flag to the Star Destroyer Challenger, and left the Task Force in the charge of one of his deputies to assume command of the ships protecting the Jedi.
