Design
The ship's armament consisted of twenty five light turbolaser cannons, twenty quad light turbolaser cannons, ten point-defense laser cannons, Twenty point-defense light ion cannons, and three tractor beam projectors. The Vindicator was equipped with a Class 2 hyperdrive. It carried 400 troops and a crew of 2,551. Many Vindicators were specifically configured so that they could carry a full, 72 fighter, TIE starfighter wing and operate independently without the need for support ships. Most configurations could carry only two squadrons of starfighters. Many of the designs and components found in Star Destroyers found their way into these similar looking, but smaller vessels. Because of its resemblance to the ISD, the Imperial bureaucracy has shown an affinity to the design. Its proven, reliable hull can be outfitted with a large assortment of armaments, and has been employed for several heavy cruiser designs. The all-purpose hull and ship systems are effortlessly converted for custom mission duties.
History
The Vindicator-class Heavy Cruiser is the forerunner of the Immobilizer 418 Interdictor Cruiser and the Enforcer Picket Cruiser. Designed to serve as a front line ship during the height of Palpatine's reign, these ships are often deployed in situations in which Imperial-class Star Destroyers were unavailable, and smaller ships were not powerful enough. The ship was manufactured by Sienar Fleet Systems The Immobilizer 418 cruiser was designed using the same basic hull as the Vindicator. In addition to manufacturing new Immobilizer 418s, the Empire converted a number of Vindicators into Interdictor cruisers. The Vindicator's hull was used again to build the Enforcer-class picket cruiser.
