The Valiant is an MC40a Star Cruiser, under the command of Colonel Leela Vorega. It is currently assigned as one of the vessels escorting The Wheel.

History

The Valiant entered Rebel service around the time of the Battle of Hoth, and was part of the Defiance Task Force during the campaign against Admiral Holtz. She continued in service with the task force until the Battle of Endor, but missed the engagement itself due to battle damage sustained in a preliminary skirmish.

After Endor, the Valiant returned to service under Captain Vansen Tyree - a Republic and Imperial veteran - who used his knowledge of the Empire's tactics to lead a hit-and-run campaign against Imperial supply lines, particularly along the Hydian Way. Operations ranged from simple harrassment to the pirating of supplies, and also the destruction of escort craft where necessary.

Command later passed to Colonel Leela Vorega, the former leader of the fighter compliment aboard Valiant. She took charge of the ship during the Liberation of Bothawui, and remained in command after the ship was deployed on a classified assignment to escort The Wheel - a convoy of Jedi survivors - during which time the ship acted as the base of operations for Rogue Squadron.

More recently, the Wheel has been joined by now-Commodore Tyree aboard the Challenger, and the Valiant's role has now changed to that of scout, vanguard, and escort. Rogue Squadron is primarily deployed aboard the Challenger, but the Valiant is still used should the squadron need to be conveyed elsewhere in the galaxy to conduct a mission - part of the security measures designed to prevent the location of the Wheel from being discovered by the Empire.

An MC40a named Valiant appeared in the computer game X-Wing Alliance. This version and the Fans version are regarded as the same, as far as the Galactic Civil War backstory is concerned.
