Gotham City Locations
Arkham Asylum
The Elizabeth Arkham Asylum for the Criminally Insane is a psychiatric hospital and detention facility for those who are declared to be mentally ill by the Gotham courts. It was founded by Amadeus Arkham, built inside his family's historic home after the death of his mother. Allegedly, Arkham remodelled the mansion to evoke occult and arcane practices; Arkham eventually became a patient in his own institution after murdering one of his own patients.
In recent years, Arkham Asylum has received substantial investment from City Hall and and private parties like Wayne Enterprises to improve the security at the facility, allowing it to safely hold many of the dangerously insane villains apprehended by (and some would argue created by) the Batman. Current patients include Harleen Quinzel, a former staff psychologist at Arkham driven insane by having the Joker as a patient; and Jason Todd, a former associate of Batman, driven to crime by years of torture by the Joker. |

Gotham Central
Gotham Central is one of the oldest GCPD precinct buildings in the city, located close to City Hall and several other important civic buildings. Though it has been superseded by precinct buildings elsewhere in the city, it has become the headquarters for several of the GCPD's important units, including Major Crimes Unit, Internal Affairs, Infernal Affairs, and the Quick Response Team.
The Bat Signal is located on the roof of the Gotham Central building. |
Gotham Library
Gotham Library boasts one of the largest (and oldest) literature collections in the country, both in terms of the number of volumes stored there, and the sheer size and scope of the building that contains them. Many of the texts stored at the library are old enough to pre-date Gotham City; in addition to the public library itself, there are a number of private and restricted collections that are kept under controlled conditions to preserve the more fragile items. The library boasts modern titles as well though, and thanks to funding by the Wayne Foundation is able to provide an extensive suite of computers as well as free wifi. That, in combination with a coffee lounge where patrons are invited to sit and read, makes it an extremely popular venue for school and university students, as well as Gotham socialites looking for somewhere out of the way to pass the time.
Barbara Gordon currently works at the Gotham Library as one of the staff librarians. |
Robinson Park
Robinson Park is a large public space located in the centre of Gotham City. For quite some time it was left to deteriorate without much attention or investment from the city, but recently the Wayne Foundation has put money into providing better groundskeeping and improving the facilities there.
A number of civic structures are located within and around Robinson Park. The Gotham Botanical Gardens - maintained by Wayne Botanical - boast an extensive collection of rare and exotic plants made available for public display. The Park also has grandstands and amphitheatres where music concerts and plays can be performed. Because of the high level of crime in Gotham however, these events usually require a significant amount of GCPD presence. |
Queen Consolidated
The QC Building has been the corporate headquarters of Queen Consolidated for the last ten or so years. Most of the company's manufacturing and research facilities are located at sites scattered around Gotham - as well as elsewhere in the country - leaving the QC Building to focus on finance, marketing, and programming. In addition to an open-plan and modern environment that is intended to promote a happy and creative workspace, the QC Building boasts several function rooms, and a number of lecture and presentation halls that can be used for education programs and conferences. After hours, QC's presentation spaces are made available as an exclusive music, movie, and theatre venue, and the after-hours menu at the QC Building's staff canteen is a trendy-but-affordable restaurant aimed at the same demographic as QC's products.
According to Lucius Fox, the Queen Consolidated lobby has some of the nicest bathrooms in Gotham City. |
STAR Labs, Gotham
STAR Labs owns a small facility located on the outskirts of Gotham City.
As with all STAR Labs, the Gotham facility has a specific focus: in this instance, advanced technologies. The Gotham Lab not only works to develop applications for new scientific concepts for use in technology for public, government, and military use, it also spearheads the research into "extranormal" technologies on behalf of the DEO, studying and cataloguing alien and anachronistic hardware as well as any illegal or unregistered tech confiscated by the DEO as part of vigilante or villain cases. The proximity of this particular lab to Gotham City is no accident: Gotham is home not only to one of America's most well-known tech-based vigilantes, but also to several of it's leading tech development corporations as well. Because of it's role in assisting the DEO in investigations, the Gotham facility also acts as the local DEO field office. Booster Gold is one of the agents stationed there. |

Wayne Tower
Wayne Tower is the corporate headquarters of Wayne Enterprises and it's myriad subsidiaries. Though the corporation owns numerous buildings and manufacturing plants all across Gotham, many of the company's most sophisticated facilities are located within the tower, including the R&D labs for Applied Sciences.
The tower was constructed to be the focal point of Gotham's business district, and is a hub for several Gotham City utilities, and for the metro transit network. Because of it's importance to Gotham's infrastructure, City Hall leases office space in the building for members of the transit and sanitation authorities. Because the metro system feeds directly into the tower - and because Wayne Tower is one of the safest and best-maintained parts of town - the lower storeys have become highly sought-after for shops, restaurants, and businesses wanting maximum exposure to potential customers. |
