− | + | '''Cities'''<br> | |
− | + | The cities are of a variety of designs, having been constructed by various companies at various points over the 200 years preceding the rise of the Empire. The majority are disc-shaped, while others are cylindrical. However, each of the cities is equipped with defense systems, including turbolaser batteries, energy shielding, and squadrons of starfighters. The cities are mobile through the use of powerful sub-light engines.

+ | The smallest of the Duros city-ships, such as Urdorf City, are approximately 50 km in diameter and house approximately 50 million people; while the largest, namely Jyvus Space City and the capital of Bburru Station, are approximately 100 km in diameter and house upwards of 150 million. In addition to the large populations of Duro, the orbital cities are also home to artificial biomes containing many species of flora and fauna from the now de-populated planet surface.

+ | '''Planet Surface'''<br>
+ | The surface of Duro itself is a wasteland, in most cases incapable of supporting life. The environment is contaminated by radioactive waste and special protective gear must be worn by anyone landing on the surface. A population of approximately 12,000 exists on the surface for the operation and maintenance of a multitude of automated food-processing plants and mining operations. While travel to the surface is strictly monitored by the Duro government, there are a moderate number of unauthorized vessels on the surface taking part in illegal mining or scavenging operations. Due to their relative rarity, ancient Duros artifacts command a high price on the black market.

+ | '''Government'''<br>
+ | Each of the 20 orbiting city-ships operates fairly independently, responsible for its own economy and security. Most of the city governments are intertwined or synonymous with the management of the starship construction corporation that built the city, though some are ruled by an elected legislature and one even has a hereditary monarchy. For the majority of the cities ruled by the dominant corporation, all important political decisions are made by the stockholders of the corporations. Any stockholding Duros therefore can participate in the administration of the city, but wealth translates directly to power. Each city also includes a largely powerless imperial representative. Regardless of the individual system of government, each of the cities is represented by two individuals on a Planetary Council, stationed at the High Seat in the capital city of Bburru. The Council works with the office of the sector's Moff to coordinate larger scope affairs, such as inter-system trade, defense, disputes between cities, travel to and from the planet surface, surface food production and mining, etc.
+ | |||
+ | '''Law Enforcement and Defense'''<br>
+ | Each of the 20 city-ships fields a vast force of law enforcement agents to maintain order. With an average ratio of approximately 1 officer for every 250 civilians, the cities' police forces range in size from 200,000 to 600,000. One of the Duro cities is home to an Imperial military base housing the 1206th Mobile Corps (around 150,000 troops). An additional 30,000 Imperial Army troops are distributed among the 20 cities and the planet surface to work with local law enforcement and maintain Imperial rule. The Imperial Army troops are commanded by the sector's Moff while the local law enforcement answers to a local police chief and, ultimately, to the city's ruler or ruling body. If needed, the Imperial Army forces may be reinforced by forces stationed elsewhere in the Sector or by Stormtroopers.

Duro (also known as Duros) was the heavily polluted and depopulated homeworld of the Duros species. Located on the Corellian Trade Spine, the planet itself was mostly abandoned, housing mostly food processing plants. Most people lived in one of the twenty orbiting cities. Duro was also home to a large number of orbital shipyards.
