The TIE/x3 starfighter, or TIE Interceptor prototype was the continuation in the line of TIE testbed starfighters created by Sienar Fleet Systems. Its design lead to the development of the TIE/IN Interceptor.

Design

It incorporated many of the design innovations from the TIE Advanced x1 and TIE Advanced x2 models, including higher performance ion engines than the standard TIE/LN starfighter, improved combat software, and inward-swept solar/radiator panels configured for higher pilot visibility. However, its hullform was more consistent with the TIE fighter, rather than the experimental departures of the TIE/x1 and TIE/x2. It also lacked those models' hyperdrives.

History

Developed just prior to the Fei Hu campaign, the TIE/x3 was the prototype for the new TIE/IN interceptor starfighter.
