Design
the Interceptor-class was basically an extensively rebuilt Corellian Engineering Corporation Action VI transport. The Interceptor frigate was armed with six turbolasers and a group of three proton torpedo tubes facing forward. The Interceptor was a cheap, yet versatile, vessel. Its effective missile system was built around an innovative concept called 'breachstacking', in which the launchers are fitted with an elongated breech that can accomodate up to four missiles at a time. The missiles are 'stacked' atop one another in the breech, which seals shut in preparation for firing. When the launcher fires, it ejects and activates all four missiles nearly simultaneously, meaning that even the diminuitive Interceptor V can fire a full salvo barrage of 24 missiles at once with minimal difficulty, a feat previously unheard of in a ship of its size. They had shielding roughly equivalent to the much larger EF76 Nebulon-B escort frigate and could achieve similar acceleration. The Interceptor-class possessed powerful engines allowing it to reach extremely high sublight velocities for a vessel of its size. Depending on the combat role, the Interceptor V could have its missile payloads tailored for the task at hand, packing any type of missile readily available, from a standard concussion missile or even specializing as an anti-fighter rig by packing anti-starfighter shrapnale missiles. All in all, the ship's weakness was its lightly armored hull
History
Though they were used by a large number of pirate groups, most Interceptor frigates bore Black Sun emblems, and some were occasionally purchased by the Alliance Fleet and Imperial Navy.
