Mutant Powers
|
Taya’s mutation has morphed her into a catlike form with a feline face and ears, enlarged hands and feet, retractable claws, a coat of tawny fur, and a long, flexible tail. With her feline appearance have come heightened senses, athleticism, and balance. If she possesses any other superhuman abilities, she hasn't discovered them yet.

Biography
|
The only child of an affluent couple in San Mateo, California, Taya's mutation began to manifest itself during her puberty in a dramatic and terrifying fashion. Her body began a process of change down to her very bone structure, and upon examination, she was diagnosed with an active X-gene. Fearing she was suffering from a random physical mutation, her parents began seeking ways to halt or even reverse her transformation, and they spent the better part of a year hopping from hospital to hospital to investigate emerging treatments.
Taya's doctors thought they had found the answer in an advanced course of gene therapy developed by geneticists at the Jericho Center for Genetic Medicine. However, the treatment sent her into shock and nearly killed her. Shaken, Taya and her parents decided to ride out the process and take their chances with whatever form was written into her genetic code.
After her transformation was complete, Taya's parents began seeking out a place where Taya could resume school in safety. To their surprise, Cullen's Institute for the Gifted sought them out. After a lengthy phone conversation with headmaster Ethan Daniels, they agreed to a visit. Taya, however, found herself hesitant about the idea of attending a "special school" for mutants.

Personality
|
Taya has come to accept her feline appearance and even revels in it. Perhaps as an antidote to her own self-consciousness, she carries herself with a confidence that borders on ostentation, and she's perfectly willing to make jokes at her own expense. She tends to respond to taunts and teasing by subverting them with her own sense of humor.
Before her transformation began, Taya was an avid athlete and competed with the girls' soccer and lacrosse teams at her high school. During her long stints in hospitals, she fell back on another of her interests - art. She spent long hours in lobbies and exam rooms sketching and even documented her own changes in a sketchbook full of anatomical self-studies.
