Similar to Glauca in that they love the sea, the Mer do not possess gills though they can hold their breath underwater for close to twenty minutes. They have large eyes with secondary eyelids for protection underwater, small petite bodies and webs between fingers and toes. They live by the sea, usually in 'cities' built into seaside cliffs. Sometimes considered to be the result of interbreeding between Glauca and the Fian. Of all the races the Mer are the fewest in number.
Most Mer magicians are Water/Air.

Unsorted Facts
The Mer are not secretive, they just tend to keep to themselves. The Glaucans do not mingle with them, considering them annoying for the most part. The Mer do not wander far from the sea, though they do not possess gills like the Glaucan race does.
They eat a diet consisting almost entirely of seafood - fish, shellfish, crustaceans.
The Mer have many small settlements tucked into seaside cliffs near Nifleim, the largest being Peer and Mill (named so for the human's mill nearby).
They have a holy place in a coral reef east of the coast of Asga. The reef has naturally formed a bowl shape, and the elemental affinity of Water is especially powerful there.
Religion
The Mer revere birds, from the seabirds that roost in their cities to the great Birds that live at the edge of the world in the rocks before the great waterfall that descends to the Nothing. The raven is especially honored, as a direct descendant of the Birds that live at the edge of the world.
The great Birds come and take the spirit of the dead to the underworld, and the Mer 'bury' their dead in the air, on an archipelago of tiny islands far out beyond the Bowl Reef. They take small boats out and the family erect wooden structures to lift the body of the dead relative high into the air above the barren islands. The body becomes food for the birds, and the Birds also (or so the Mer fervently believe).
