John Glayde
From TheHolo.Net Forums Wiki
A veteran of the Imperial Stormtrooper Corps, John Glayde is now a Major in the Alliance SpecForce, and is the leader of the Dorn Force special operations team. His previous military experience includes service as a Scout Trooper, Jump Trooper, and Storm Commando with the Galactic Empire, prior to his defection to the Alliance in 2 BE.
In addition to serving as the leader of Dorn Force, he is their resident Pathfinder, with experience in reconnaissance, various forms of high altitude and orbital deployment. He has also an experienced pilot, and has trained for combat in zero-g conditions.
History
- "???"
- ―??
Though raised by a veteran CorSec Officer who was proud to see Corellia stand apart from the Empire, the loss of Glayde's younger sister Sora to an act of interstellar lawlessness ultimately led him to enlist in the Stormtrooper Corps at seventeen, hoping to prevent more families from losing their daughters. He served as a basic trooper until his eighteenth birthday, when he was transferred for training and eventual deployment with a unit of Scout Troopers, out on Naboo.
Glayde proved to be a natural scout and marksman, and progressed steadily through the ranks, earning the rank of Sergeant and commanding his own Lancer by twenty-one. His status as a Scout NCO didn't last long however, as he was soon headhunted by the elite Jump Troopers, to join their ranks.
He served with distinction, but during a mission with the Jump Troopers he was badly injured, and was mistakenly recorded as killed in action. Intending to take advantage of the oversight - and his skills - Glayde was reassigned to the Storm Commandos, and given extensive additional training.
Sergeant Glayde ultimately left the Storm Commandos over a moral conflict resulting from his orders. He was sent to kill a dangerous Rebel target, before she could do harm to any innocent civilians: upon reaching her home however, he found her with her two children, and refused the order. He was reprimanded; and two days later that same woman boarded a transport carrying over a hundred passengers, and detonated a bomb. Glayde continues to hold himself responsible for each and every one of those deaths; he would have been given a dishonourable discharge from the Corps, were he not already listed as KIA.
While Glayde had been in Imperial service, his parents had retired to Alderaan, and were killed when the planet was destroyed. Finding himself with no career and no family, he drifted for a while before ultimately becoming involved with the Rebel Alliance: a retired Imperial Captain named Vansen Tyree managed to convince him that, despite the actions he had witnessed and permitted to happen, the objective of restoring the Republic was a noble goal; but the Alliance would need individuals such as Glayde, with their strong moral compass, in order to keep them on the right track. Submitting his credentials to Crix Madine, Glayde found himself inducted directly into SpecForce as a Sergeant in the Pathfinders.
Though restored to NCO status, it didn't last long: during one of his early missions, Glayde's CO was killed, and he was forced to assume command of the team. In recognition of his actions he was made a Lieutenant. He ultimately found himself and his unit reassigned to form the SpecForce contingent aboard the Valiant under Captain Tyree, and he eventually earned the rank of Captain.
Glayde was reassigned from the Valiant to a special operations project within SpecForce, which eventually became Dorn Force. Though not initially intended as such, Glayde was soon appointed the permanent Field Commander under Colonel Sogan Dalgas and then, following the team's reassignment to SpecForce Command, now-Major Glayde was made the unit's full CO. He is currently still leading the team, operating out of the Bothan Spynet headquarters on Bothawui.
Personality / Relationships
- "I need to help her. She's one of the few people from my old life that I have left."
- ―John Glayde, of Selinica Miriya
Most of the time, Glayde's emotions are carefully controlled and restrained. Partly that is a result of his commando training; but more critically, sequestering his emotions has been a subconscious way of ignoring the pain, loss, and guilt he feels over various events of his life. He is not completely devoid of emotions however, and when he begins to relax about people, he can be a kind and sympathetic individual.
Glayde's leadership style is unorthadox. Having learned to lead as a Sergeant - "one of the troops" - he finds it difficult to establish the kind of detatchment that is expected of the Officer-Enlisted relationship, and would be much happier dropping down in rank back to being a Sergeant again, provided he could keep the same job. He tries to make himself as approachable as he can; and he also goes to great lengths to understand the personnel under his command, and treat them as individuals with their own personal approach, rather than a one size fits all manner.
Selinica Miriya
When Glayde lost his sister, her best friend Selinica Miriya had become extremely close to John and his parents; and while hardly a replacement for their lost daughter, she was very much part of Glayde's "family", and he watched out for her as if she were another sibling. During his years with the Empire she fell in with the wrong sorts of people, and managed to get herself in trouble. Glayde has since managed to bail her out; and he considers his absense as being to blame for her situation.
Amos Iakona
A former Naboo volunteer, Amos Iakona was a scout trooper assigned to the four-man Lancer that Glayde commanded: one of three "problem" troopers that Glayde was ordered to either train to an acceptable standard, or discharge. He saw a great deal of potential in Amos; unfortunately, Glayde was reassigned to the Jump Troopers, and Iakona ultimately left the Corps. Years later, Glayde encountered Iakona while working with the Rebellion, and had Amos assigned as a Sergeant in the reconnaissance unit of the SpecForce Company he commanded aboard the Valiant.
Jaden Luka
A Corellian, Jaden Luka opted for military service rather than serving jail time for a string of speeder crimes. He was one of Glayde's "problem" troopers, but was much more maverick in his attitude. Having served his requisite sentence, he was discharged along with Amos, and the two bought a YT-2000 Transport together; Glayde has borrowed this craft on behalf of Dorn Force on numerous occasions in recent years.
Vansen Tyree
The man responsible for Glayde's joining the Rebellion, Vansen Tyree was the charasmatic sympathiser who convinced Glayde that while the actions of some individual rebels where abhorant, the cause of the Rebellion was just: and it was up to young men like him to ensure that the war was waged the right way. After Tyree joined the Alliance as a starship Captain himself a few years later, he intentionally sought out Glayde and had him assigned to his ship.
Mara Tallen
A SpecForce officer aboard the Valiant, Mara Tallen was a Heavy Weapon Specialist with whom Glayde had a brief romantic relationship. The two were separated by reassignment, but were reunited in Dorn Force. Since Glayde was her direct superior however, he was reluctant to revisit their earlier relationship: the friction that resulted ultimately contributed to Tallen's reassignment from the unit for "discipline" reasons - though not at Glayde's request, or choice.
Charlotte Tur'enne
A fellow Corellian, Charlotte Tur'enne was assigned to Dorn Force as it's Infiltration specialist and Designated Marksman. The only survivor of Taskforce Cresh, she has a reputation for being insolent and insubordinate; however, Glayde seems to have earned her trust, and respect. The sentiment is echoed to such a degree that Glayde recently selected her as his second-in-command. There have been times when a deeper personal relationship might have evolved, but Glayde is reluctant do become involved with someone under his command in that manner.
Alexander Tur'enne
The brother of Charlotte, Alexander Tur'enne was a research scientist that Glayde and Charlotte rescued from an Imperial facility. Over the course of the rescue, Glayde was severely wounded; Xander carried him to safety, ultimately helping to rescue his own rescuer. Many people find Xander tiresome and frustrating, but Glayde has a lot of respect for, and patience with him.
Torrsk Oruo'rel
The Supreme Commander of SpecForce, Torrsk Oruo'rel is Glayde's ultimate military superior. The two have only met recently, and that meeting was marred by Dorn Force being placed under intense scrutiny during a hunt for someone to blame in a mission gone wrong, and by the subsequent reassingment of many of Glayde's personnel. Dorn Force now answers directly to SpecForce Command, so interactions between the General and the Major are likely to become more frequent.
