Amos Iakona is a former officer of the Naboo Royal Guard who was conscripted into the Imperial Stormtrooper Corps. His service eventually terminating as a Scout Trooper, went on to serve as part of a Platoon of SpecForce Rangers (commanded by John Glayde), stationed aboard the Star Cruiser Valiant. He is currently on a "break" from his Rebel involvements, after discovering that his uncle - Mandan Hidatsa - was a Jedi.
Early Career
|
Very protective of his past, Amos tends to avoid sharing information about his background where possible. What is known is that he was born on Naboo, and served at a young age in the Naboo Royal Guard before being drafted into the Imperial Stormtrooper Corps. He served as a basic Stormtrooper first as part of the Naboo Garrison, and then later on deployment elsewhere in the galaxy. While serving as part of the Batallion aboard an Imperial Star Destroyer, he achieved the rank of Sergeant. At some point he managed to get himself on the wrong side of a few senior officers, and was eventually reassigned to Ord Varee where he was relegated to the Garrison Commander's least favourite Scout Trooper unit.
While serving with the Scout Troopers, Sergeant Iakona commanded a four-man Lancer - the same Lancer to which Imperial Academy hopeful Jaden Luka had been assigned as an intern, hoping to gain some prior experience with the Imperial forces that would set him in better stead when he joined the Academy. Amos and Jaden became good friends, mainly because of the way Jaden's innocent questions about proceedure and tactics kept showing up their somewhat incompetant Platoon Commander.
When Jaden's father died and their unit commander withdrew his sponsorship of Jaden's application to the Academy, Amos was quick to leap to his defense. Unfortunately, his rather heavy-handed approach saw him given the choice to either resign or face a dishonourable discharge. Amos chose the latter, and joined Jaden aboard his new ship: the Astral Queen.

The Rebel Alliance
|
Amos and Jaden became involved with the Rebel Alliance after their ship fell foul of an Imperial patrol. Fortunately an Alliance vessel was on-hand to assist, and kindly agreed to assist the duo in repairing their ship. Amos found the entire situation uncomfortable: while he had been aware as a Stormtrooper that the way the Empire handled its business was wrong, he wasn't willing to turn himself into a "terrorist" in order to oppose those actions; it was one thing to turn on an abstract ideal, but another to turn on the people who you had previously put your life on the line for.
After exposure to the crew of the Valiant however, Amos agreed to lend his expertise to part of the ship's SpecForce contingent, joining Red Squad on a mission to commendeer an Imperial Transport. While there he intervened in the breakdown of the Squad's leader, preventing the needless deaths of both the Civilian crew and the Imperials aboard. Impressed with his morals, Amos was eventually appointed leader of Gold Squad, a unit of SpecForce Rangers. (Ride of the Valkyries)
Amos assisted his unit commander - John Glayde - later that year, helping him track down a childhood friend who was in serious need of their help. (A Friend in Need)
After hearing that his mother was extremely ill, Amos took his leave from the Valiant in order to return home. He travelled to Brentaal, where he encountered Ilias Nytrau, and took him aboard as a passenger. He carried Nytrau as far as Bespin, with the intention of allowing him to make his own way from there; after a chance encounter with Wyl Staedler and a few survivors of the Jedi Purge, he found himself transporting Nytrau to The Wheel, coming full circle to return to the Valiant.
