A Mandalorian, Amaros Koine was one of the Cuy'val Dar - "Those Who No Longer Exist" - who were recruited by Jango Fett to help train the Republic Commando clones being bred for the Galactic Republic on Kamino. A Journeyman Protector from Concord Dawn, Amaros agreed to join Fett shortly after the death of his sister, Aya. Because of the secrecy surrounding the clones and Kamino, Amaros was forced to sever all ties with his past life.

After the end of the Clone Wars, Amaros found himself homeless. With nothing left of his old life worth returning to, he went into hiding on Naboo, eventually creating a new identity for himself. He took Amos Iakona as his new name: Amos being a contraction of Amaros, and Iakona a contraction of his sister's name, Aya Koine. He went on to volunteer as a member of the Royal Naboo Security Forces, and later married Cheyenne Iakona; together they had a son, who was also named Amos Iakona.
