Since the encounter between the X-Men and the Brotherhood at the Yukka Mountain Facility, Professor Francoise Dupont has been in a deep, psychic coma. Every day, Headmaster Ethan Daniels spends time at the bed-side of his friend, hoping that the sound of his voice will help to bring her back from the dreamless sleep she suffers. At last, it seems his efforts have paid off, though not in the way the Headmaster would have expected.
By making physical contact with Francoise, Ethan is drawn into a strange world of memories, where scenes from his past are replayed and distorted - but to what end? Along the way, he encounters friends and foes alike, though quickly learns that appearances can be deceptive and nothing is certain. As Ethan jumps forward through time to some unknown destination, he tries to unravel the enigma of Francoise's condition, and in doing so free himself from the psychic nightmare...
