The Justice Society of America was an initiative introduced by the Department of Justice during the Cold War, in an effort to regulate and moderate America's population of costumed heroes and vigilantes. It existed until 1989, when a crisis occurred that cost the lives of several JSA members - and caused civilian casualties - leading to the introduction of the Vigilante Regulation Act (VRA) and the end of government tolerance towards vigilantism.
