Clan Drin was among the smaller, less influential families on Trianii colony world of Brochiib, so it was with no small amount of pride that they sent one of their sons, Kizael, to the heart of the Republic to be raised as a Jedi. Kizael was trained under the guidance of the only other Trianii Jedi in the Order, Moorjah Dreeshan, from youngling to Padawan and ultimately to Knighthood a few short years before the Clone Wars.
Kizael was known for unconventional methods and ideas. Setting him apart further was the rare gift of energy absorption, a power many warned was dangerously close to the Dark Side. Though he held the Jedi Code in high regard, he resisted tradition with a stubbornness not often seen among his peers. This was most likely the source of his close relationship with Qui-Gon Jinn, another mentor in his youth, and by extension Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker years later. On the day Order 66 came down, Kizael was on a recon mission on Ryloth scouting a suspected Droid Army outpost dangerously far into the Nightlands. It was his first mission after achieving the rank of Master. Alone in the sub-zero hostile wastelands, the death of everyone and everything he'd known in his life hit him like a tidal wave through the Force. The next day he carried out his mission, destroying every last scrap of the hidden base, and flew off world in secret. |

He bounced around the Colonies and Mid Rim for the better part of the next year, watching the galaxy transform practically overnight. He thought about going home, but the Corporate Sector Authority had strengthened their Picket Fleet in response to the overthrow of the Republic, blockading the only routes he could have taken to Trianii space.
Then one day a mercenary approached him, carrying a very unexpected package -- a newborn human child. The mercenary told him that he had tracked the Jedi down not for the bounty, but because he was the only one who could keep the baby safe. The mercenary had naturally brought the Empire hot on his heels, ending any chance for debate or answers to a universe of questions. So he did the only thing he could do. He took the child and ran. After his escape, the first planet where he found time to breathe was Felucia, where he named the child after the brightest star he saw in the night sky, Lianna. Kizael raised Lianna as his own cub. Her affinity with the Force became clear in her early childhood, confirming at least one of his suspicions about why the child was brought into his life. The rest would remain a mystery which he was content to leave unsolved until she was old enough to seek the answers on her own. Kizael was not destined to see Lianna on that journey, however. When she was only ten years old, Darth Vader had finally caught up to him. When he saw the Executor and felt the presence of the Dark Lord of the Sith, he was faced with an impossible decision. He knew that he could no longer keep Lianna hidden, not with Vader personally on his trail, even if he did survive the inevitable confrontation. Drin Kizael again did the only he could. He left Lianna in the care of a good family that had given them shelter, and whom he knew he could trust, Jonar and Kaida Mal Pannis, and set off alone to provide the distraction they would need to get away safely. |
