The Destiny is an Arquitens-class Light Cruiser that serves as the flagship of Captain Soto Terius and the Destiny Task Force. Though considerably smaller and less armed than most flagships - and indeed, most ships in the task force - it was chosen because Captain Terius prefers to use "lead from the front" tactics, rather than "command from the rear".

History

The Destiny was constructed by Kuat Drive Yards during the Clone Wars, and served as a Republic Light Cruiser and escort during the Clone Wars. It had a fairly unremarkable career as part of the Open Circle Fleet, and survived the war intact, entering Imperial Service.

For several years, the Destiny served as a customs interdictor, patrolling Imperial supply lanes to guard against smuggling and piracy. With the advent of more versatile craft such as Customs Corvettes and Strike Cruisers however, the escort-centric Arquitens-class was largely phased out. The Destiny herself was ambushed and disabled shortly before she was due to be mothballed: after the crew abandoned ship, no efforts were made by the Imperial military to recover the craft.

Left adrift, the Destiny was rediscovered by the Office of Naval Intelligence - a branch of the Alliance Navy working closely with Alliance Intelligence. After scrutinising Imperial military records in search of potential salvage, the Destiny was one of the candidates that was investigated and eventually brought back to Sullust for refit and repairs.

Repairs were overseen by Captain Soto Terius, a former Republic Officer and engineer with the Corellian Engineering Corporation. Once operational, the Destiny was rolled into the Fourth Fleet - the Alliance force protecting the Sullustan Sector and operating in the surrounding space; Captain Terius was selected as her commanding officer.

When Terius later assumed command of Task Force 42, the Destiny became the flotilla's flagship.
