The Purifier is the flagship of the Inquisitoriate's newly constructed 1st Black Fleet and is under the command of Captain-Inquisitor Sirus Zeera.
She is unique in that the vessel is not of Imperial design, rather, the ship was found derelict near the borders of the Unknown Regions by an Imperial taskforce. When initial observations and scans made their way to the core, the Inquisitoriate quickly took over the operation to explore the vessel from the Navy, claiming the ship contained valuable information. Hieroglyphs along the vessel's exterior matched description in texts dating to the early Republic age along with cryptic warnings of an ancient evil.
Inquisitor Karl Valten personally led boarding parties of Inquisitorial excavation squads and several stormtrooper detachments to secure the vessels key systems. Inside they found a vast network of catacombs and vast chambers carved of solid obsidian and an unknown metal alloy. The strange hieroglyphs covered nearly every surface of the interior and the larger chambers were adorned with intricate sculptures.
The force sensitive members of the excavation team simultaneously experienced a strange vision along with the feeling of eyes watching them before the vessel's guardians retaliated. Power coursed through the derelict and strange droid-like beings began slaughtering the invading Imperials. The constructs possessed technology far beyond Imperial knowledge and the constructs themselves seemed to be able to heal themselves...even after being blown into pieces.
The assault ended when Inquisitor Valten and the few surviving stormtroopers fought their way to the vessel's bridge and killed the construct leader. Strangely, after the Lord was dispatched, all remaining guardians vanished, even those that had been damaged beyond their ability to self-heal.
The Inquisitoriate classified all records regarding the incident and all involved found them reassigned at remote posts. A conventional hyperdrive was installed by tapping into the alien ship's immense powergrid and taken to Mulciber Installation for examination. Almost nothing has been discovered save that the vessel is perhaps millennia old and its creators possessed technology lightyears ahead of modern possibilities. Most of the vessel has been blocked off and conventional walkways, systems, and hangars have been installed by carving into the obsidian. Despite months of study, Inquisitoriate engineers have not been able to figure out how to activate the ships original systems and weapons, instead, Imperial style systems are hardwired into the nearly limitless supply of energy.
The vessel has been dubbed the Purifier and has been transferred to the Maw Installation for use of the new Inquisitoriate Navy. Much of the original architecture is unexplored and is under constant surveillance should the alien constructs be hiding deeper inside. Heavy automation and the presence of an Inquisitoriate AI mean only a skeleton crew can keep the Purifier working at full efficiency.
