Atton Kira is a former Intelligence Analyst for the Galactic Republic. He has fashioned himself the role of a Freelance Investigative Journalist, using his skills as an Analyst to uncover various truths that are then sold to whoever will buy them - be they Holonet, private citizen, or criminal organisation. He often refers to himself as "The Doctor", though no one seems to know what of. With his Yacht - the Iego Angel - currently grounded, he is currently a resident passenger aboard the Knightfall.

A young Atton Kira

Born on the old Corellian colony of Ord Radama, Atton was the son of eminent Republic lawyer Tristan Kira. While still very young, Tristan moved his family to the Core Worlds in search of better pay and more challenging cases, and eventually found himself working for the High Court on Coruscant. The career move provided the family with a great deal of wealth, and led to a somewhat spoiled childhood for Atton. Impulsive and reckless, Atton was frequently in trouble for misusing his share of the family fortune. At his worst he became a public embarassment to his father, gathering a lot of media attention towards himself; ultimately his father decided to make a very bold and public statement by having his son sent to the Republic Military Academy, in order to beat some discipline into him.

Though reckless, Atton's youth wasn't entirely wasted: naturally bright, he had always performed well at school, but found the lack of a challenge to be boring. The Academy provided him with the challenge that his life had been missing, and he dove eagerly into his new responsibilities, adjusting well to the new situation his life had presented. He graduated with scores that impressed even his father, and as an Ensign in the Republic Navy was quickly recruited by Republic Intelligence.

Atton had just completed basic Intelligence training when the Clone Wars began, and served as an Intelligence Analyst for their entire duration, eventually rising to the rank of Lieutenant. He worked closely with the Jedi on a number of occasions, helping to prepare the intelligence reports on Separatist movements and activities that would later be presented to the Jedi High Council. One Jedi in particular - Tymon Xaarl - paid particular attention to the young Lieutenant, although Atton never discovered why, and never had a chance to ask: Master Xaarl was killed during the Jedi purge that followed Order 66.

Palpatine's New Order

Intelligence Officer Kira

With the destruction of the Jedi and the defeat of the Separatists came the rise of the New Order. Atton's father was by then a prominent figure on Coruscant, and was very vocal about his views on the illegal nature of Palpatine's political take-over. Their house was raided by Clone Troopers and their assets siezed; Atton's father, mother, and younger sister didn't survive. Fortunately for Atton his status within the Republic Navy had shielded him, and reports by his superiors were enough to assure the officers conducting Palpatine's purge of his enemies that Atton wasn't worth the trouble; the same superiors however advised that Atton leave Imperial service and find a place to stay out of the galaxy's way. Using the money in his trust fund - all that remained of his family's accumulated wealth - Atton went into hiding.

Not emerging back into view of the galaxy for twenty years, the Atton that resurfaced was a very different individual than the one that had disappeared. Aside from gaining the title of Doctor from somewhere (Atton continues to be very secretive about its nature and origins), Atton managed to get himself a job working for the Imperial Holonet as a freelance reporter, paid for any stories that he submitted and were published. The pay was particularly low, but was ultimately unnecessary: Atton merely took the job as a cover for his new past-time.

Putting to work the skills learned from his father and from Republic Intelligence, Atton roamed the galaxy as an "investigative journalist", trying to uncover the galaxy's secrets and mysteries to satiate his own curiosity. Some of those secrets he kept; others he sold to the holonet to earn his keep and the privilages that being a registered reporter granted him, and some he sold to the more seedy aspects of society for a little money on the side - at the right price, of course. As an information broker, Atton is known to have dealings with the Hutts and Black Sun, suspected of ties to the Rebel Alliance, and rumoured to possibly have sold information to the Galactic Empire in the past.

A few years after the death of Palpatine, Atton travelled to the Imperial-friendly world of Baraboo to investigate the strange circumstances surrounding the unexpected death of future Sovereign Decelia Andonel and her parents. (The Doctor and the Duchess)

After several years of roaming the galaxy, Atton's ship - the Iego Angel - developed mechanical faults that eventually spelled the end of the Hyperdrive. With Imperial Customs causing extensive delays for the shipments of replacement parts to Nar Shaddaa, Atton arranged long-term passage aboard the Knightfall - a smuggling vessel working as part of the Alliance Support Fleet - to avoid spending months stranded on the Hutt moon. The Angel was later stolen by a Bounty Hunter named Hugo Montegue; though Kira recieved an insurance pay-out as a result, he decided to remain aboard the Knightfall rather than purchase a new ship of his own. Jace has been around on the site since January 2007. He knows all the things, including board lore, random trivia, and really really terrible jokes and puns.
