Father
Carson Luka (dec.)
Jaden Luka is a speeder junkie and former Imperial Scout Trooper who eventually became involved with the Rebel Alliance as a fighter pilot. After serving as an A-Wing Pilot in Valkyrie Squadron, he now flies with the elite X-Wing Rogue Squadron, as Rogue One.
His callsign originates from the early days of his career in the Alliance, when a fellow pilot described him as a "useless, hairy space monkey," and it stuck.
History
|
Luka had a rather misspent youth on Corellia, mostly rebelling against the ambitions that his father - a former officer of the Republic Navy - had for him. It reached the point where Luka was arrested (as a minor) for a string of speeder-related thefts and offenses, earning him a black mark on his record. Such a mark would have prevented Jaden from direct entry into the Imperial Academy; his father managed to convince him that Imperial Service was his best ticket off Varee however, and managed to call in some favours to get Jaden an enlisted placement with a local Scout Trooper contingent, to "earn his stripes" before applying to the Academy internally.
Unfortunately, Jaden's direct superior wasn't particularly fond of the arrangements that had been made, and paired him with Amos Iakona: his other least-favourite Scout. The duo became a problem pair; irritatingly, they managed to find and complete missions worthy of recognition, even when assigned to the most uneventful and dreary posts. Neither was fully satisfied with their job however; and after Jaden's father died, leaving him a sizeable inheritance, Jaden sold up, bought a ship, and took Amos off Varee with him.
As traders, Luka and Iakona tried to make a life for themselves or several years, only just managing to stay enough on top of Imperial taxation and customs regulations to turn a livable wage. That changed drastically when the two were rescued from a customs patrol by the Rebel Alliance, who offered them a home in exchange for their services. The two parted ways, Amos joining up with SpecForce while Jaden volunteered to cover for a wounded A-Wing Pilot. Jaden eventually became an official member of Valkyrie Squadron, rising to the rank of Lieutenant and serving as Valkyrie Nine. He gained such renown - particularly after a joint operation that the units flew together - that he was eventually invited to transfer to Rogue Squadron and serve as Rogue Five.
More recently, Luka was promoted to Captain and temporarily assigned to the Horizon to assist with training the former X-Wing pilots of Raptor Squadron in the new A-Wing Mark II; due to his familiarity and aptitude with both A-Wing and X-Wing craft. After the assignment was completed he returned to Rogue Squadron, temperarily taking point as Rogue One.
