Hierarchy
The leader of the United States of America is the President of the United States, who functions as head of state, head of the executive branch of government, and commander-in-chief of the United States Armed Forces.
The Presidency is an elected position, though a framework of succession exists should the President resign, be killed or incapacitated, removed from office, or otherwise become incapable of continuing to serve in their position. This succession (indicated below) begins with the Vice President, the Speaker of the House, and the President pro tempore of the United States Senate - usually the most senior Senator of the majority party - and then progresses through the United States Cabinet starting at the Secretary of State and continuing in order of the inception of their respective departments. Under certain administrations, individuals may be exempt from the line of succession, such as when they are not a natural born US citizen.

Appendices
- Due to differences in history, the government of Earth-1 diverges from reality in some details. For example, the Department of Extranormal Operations exists in lieu of the Department of Homeworld Security, meaning that many branches of government that were transferred to Homeland Security since 2003 - such as the Secret Service, ATF, TSA, FEMA, and the Coast Guard - remain with earlier departments.
