Biography
Jacob Foley was an orphan rescued from a drug den by social workers and adopted by the Fernandez family when he was aged eight. They were warm and loving people who provided him with a happy home and sent him to a good school. Despite this, Jacob was a troubled child who had difficulty inside the classroom and fought with his peers outside. Aged ten he burned the school caretaker's shed to the ground and was sent to psychiatric counseling. It was during these counseling sessions it was revealed that he was a mutant.
His teen years were riddled with minor criminal offenses such as petty theft and antisocial behaviour. Despite the patience and support of his adopted family, Jacob, or "Jake" as he insisted, struggled to come to terms with his abnormality; terrible nightmares and visions kept him awake at night, his frustration turned into violence and he fell in with the worst gang in his neighbourhood. Then one night, aged sixteen, a drunken joy ride in a stolen car turned tragic when the driver lost control of the vehicle and slammed it into a tree. Only Jake survived the collision.
He served six months in a juvenile penitentiary, where he turned seventeen, and by the time he was released, Jacob was a very different young man. He was quiet, introverted, and timid. He spent all his free time locked in his bedroom, he liked to sleep a lot to shut out the things he saw in his head. He left home when he was nineteen and took his first job working at a gas station but after a run-in with a couple of familiar faces from prison, resulting in a bloody brawl, he was sacked and returned to his family. He struggled to keep employment in the months that followed until he was invited to live with his sister, Anna, who had just bought a house of her own in California. He moved into the attic and pays rent as often as he can when he is not "between jobs".
Powers
For as far back as he can remember, Jake has always had trouble sleeping, and this is due to the vivid and often startling dreams he experiences when resting. Even in his childhood, this lack of sleep caused him great frustration which often manifested itself as aggression and he was consequently sent to psychiatric counseling. In the counseling sessions, he was given meditation excercises, during which he found his dreams returned and it was discovered that the images he saw were more than just dreams, they were happening in the homes and on the streets of Madrid.
So he was a mutant who could see the future. His visions are limited to a local proximity, and they tend to show no further than a month into the future, but the closer the vision is to the present, the greater its accuracy. Jake seems to have no control over this gift and there are days during which he finds himself plagued ceaselessly by nightmarish visions of the most appalling human atrocities. He refers to these as his "Bad Days". However, there have been times in the past when Jake has been faced with grave danger and his gift of foresight has conveniently awoken to steer him clear of harm and, in some cases, certain death.
His mutation has also granted him the gift of telepathy, as a result he is able to read minds and project his thoughts to others. He cannot control minds or tamper with them in any way. And finally, Jake has latent telekinetic powers of unknown potential.
