Biography
Dani Takahashi was born a minute before midnight in the back of taxi cab. He was raised in the foothills of Komagane City and enjoyed a happy, if humble, childhood. He walked to school everyday with his father, who was a teacher, and afterwards visited his grandfather's dojo. He loved his granfather dearly, and it was thanks to him he had such a unique name, for Dani was the name of the man responsible for saving his life during the Second World War. Sadly, the name brought with it the burden of also meaning "mite" or "tick" in Japanese, and consequently young Dani bore the brunt of much playground teasing. He was taught to defend himself by his grandfather and instructed in the principles of katana combat, having developed a love for samurai films. If his father made him smart, and his grandfather kept him fit, then it was his mother who gave him faith. She was a deeply religious woman who took Dani and his sister halfway across the city to the shrine each week. In his adult life, Dani struggles to stay true to the values he was taught as a boy but still holds them close to his heart.
His mutation surfaced during a family vacation when he was ten years old. Holiday makers feared for the lives of their children when they saw a boy creating miniature typhoons on the Mibu River, the local authorities were summoned and the Takahashi family were sent home for disturbing the peace. His mother saw it as a curse, a gift said his grandfather, but it was his father who had the foresight to invest in his son's future and before his thirteenth birthday, Dani was sent to Tokyo. There his condition was monitored and he attended a school for special children. He met no other mutants but he enjoyed a privilaged life in the big city; his clothes were smart, he ate well, he learned english, and saw all the latest samurai movies in the cinema. Then one day he turned eighteen and recieved a phone call informing him that his grandfather had been killed during a robbery.
After the funeral, Dani encountered a mysterious stranger who spoke to him of mutation and the future, he offered him a life free of the oppression and scrutiny of ordinary people. Dani declined the offer, his family needed him and he wanted a job to make his father proud, so the stranger disappeared. In the year that followed he managed two jobs, the first as a teacher's assistant alongside his father, and the second running evening lessons at his grandfather's dojo. His life had become respectable, and dull. A year later, the stranger returned and this time, Dani was ready. He gave his mother with the fortune he'd saved over the year and in return was offered her own silver omamori charm, which he wears around his neck. And from his father he recieved his grandfather's katana, broken from the tragic night of the robbery, which now sits proudly at his hip. He left in winter and dissappeared over the snow-crested hills with the stranger, heading for a new life in the west.
Powers
Dani can manipulate the air around him; he can control the flow of air, in both direction and speed, with great accuracy, and has the ability to alter the density of air particles, too. His gift takes several forms:
Kazeshini or "Deathwind" is the ability to pack air particles so tight they form powerful shimmering blades which dance at his command.
Kazepo or "Breezing Step" allows Dani to literally walk on air by compressing solid the particles beneath his feet.
Sasayaki Kaminari or "Storm Whisper" is a technique which condenses the air in a given space to the size of a pinprick, first creating a vacuum and then a thunderous explosion when released.
