History
Originally formed as a Z-95 Headhunter unit during the early days of the Rebel Alliance, Valkyrie Squadron was one of the progenator units of the hit-and-fade tactics that came to epitomize Rebel activities. They also participated in several major battles, including flying at Ton-Falk and Kashyyyk; and ultimately became one of the first units selected to fly the new RZ-1 A-Wing Interceptor. During the Battle of Endor, many Valkyries flew as part of Green Squadron.

Valkyrie Squadron has its origins during the very early days of the Alliance to Restore the Republic. When the Corellian Treaty was signed, marking the beginning of the combined resistance efforts of Corellia, Alderaan and Chandrila, Valkyrie Squadron was established as a unit of Z-95 Headhunters intended to be involved with the hit-and-fade operations that would come to epitomise Rebel tactics.
+
Following Endor, the Valkyries returned to their operations to disrupt Imperial trade routes, based aboard the Mon Calamari Cruiser Valiant. Their area of operations focused on the Hydian Way, and their activities secured numerous small victories for the Alliance, claiming the Carrack Cruiser Edean and the Strike Cruiser Cryptic Forest as victims, among others.

The unit existed as such for some time, fighting several battles including Ton-Falk and Kashyyyk in the years before the Battle of Yavin. After the destruction of the Death Star, Valkyrie Squadron was selected to become one of the Rebel's small number of A-Wing Squadrons. Valkyrie Squadron returned to its raiding missions, specifically targetting Imperial supply lines in an effort to disrupt operations, and to drain Imperial resources by forcing them to commit more craft to escort operations on their convoys drawing craft away from other areas. This experience served the Squadron well in the aftermath of the Battle of Endor, where the unit was deployed on a similar series of operations.
+
Some time later, the squadron was outfitted with the new RZ-2 A-Wing Interceptor, and assigned with the Valiant to protect The Wheel - a convoy of survivors from the Jedi Purge. They were initially joined in the endeavour by Rogue Squadron, and later by numerous other squadrons when the Star Destroyer Challenger was assigned to assist. With the bulk of The Wheel's air group assigned to the larger Challenger, Valkyrie Squadron was deployed alone aboard the Valiant, occasionally joined by Rogue Squadron (or other units) as part of scouting and vanguard missions.

Eventually assigned aboard the Mon Calamari Cruiser Valiant, the Valkyries joined the B-Wings of Dagger Squadron and continued to strike against Imperial trade routes, specifically targetting the region surrounding the Hydian Way. A few years after the Battle of Endor, they successfully disabled a the Carrack Cruiser Edean, and commendeered two Action VI Transports from an Imperial patrol escorted by the Strike Cruiser Cryptic Forest. ===== Major Leela Vorega =====

Flying as Valkyrie Leader, Leela Vorega is the Squadron's commander as well as the senior pilot aboard the Valiant. A survivor of Alderaan, she carries a lot of guilt regarding her service with the Empire prior to the destruction of her homeworld, which she tends to convert into anger towards others who made "the same mistakes" as her. In spite of her sometimes short temper however, she has repeatedly demonstrated great skill in the cockpit, and an affinity for tactics, leadership, and motivating her pilots.

A former Scout Trooper and Imperial Academy hopeful, Jaden Luka learned to fly at the controls of a Corellian YT-2000 over seven years roaming the Outer Rim. He was recruited into the Rebel Alliance - and Valkyrie Squadron - by Leela Vorega, serving initially as her wingman as Valkyrie Two. Valkyrie Ten, and wingman to Jaden Luka. Oolan was a Verpine who, unlike the majority of his species, chose to lend his biological adaptions to flying planes in combat rather than pieces them back together afterwards. Genetically a hermaphrodite along with the rest of his species, he chose to adopt the use of male pronouns in order to more easily integrate with members of other species.

A Sullustan, and former wingman of Leela Vorega. He was badly injured during an engagement with an Imperial convoy, and was grounded for several months while he recovered. He was initially replaced by Jaden Luka (Ride of the Valkyries), until Jaden was made a Flight Leader. He has not yet returned to active status.

The Chief Technician assigned to oversee the fighters Valkyrie Squadron, Eevee as she is better known is a blue-grey Squib who lives up to her species' reputation as a scavenger and pack-rat. A respected member of the Valiant Deck Crew, she is one of the few individuals that most pilots in the unit will allow to "tinker" with their ships, trusting that whatever alterations she makes will be improvements, as they have consistantly been in the past.

PDG0 - "Geo"
The droid affectionately known as Geo serves as the Quartermaster and Ajutant attatched to the fighter squadrons aboard the Valiant. Though his model was designed to function in arctic conditions, Geo has adapted well to his role assisting fighter squadrons, although many of the pilots find his overly-optimistic approach a little wearing at times. Geo is also known to work with the command crew of the Valiant as well, filling the role of Yeoman if one is required.

Some time later, the squadron was outfitted with the new RZ-2 A-Wing Interceptor, and assigned with the Valiant to protect The Wheel - a convoy of survivors from the Jedi Purge. Out of Character

The squadron is named in reference to a fighter that appears in the Macross anime, and one that appears in a computer game from the Star Trek franchise. The logo meanwhile is a modified version of a Nightwing logo from DC Comics, chosen for its V-like shape and bird-like stylings.
