The local name for RX-271, a planet in the Outer Rim.

Planetary Features
Several large continents, sparse native population. Most settlements or caers are on the northern continent. The Imperial garrison is on the eastern coast of the northern continent.

The country is a mix of forests, mountains, and open plains in the temperate zones, with ice caps st the poles. The planet is ringed with a small band of asteroids, which contribute to a season of impressive meteor showers once a year. There are two moons, Gealaí and Gealach.

Society
Roghnófar Daoine

The Chosen People, as they call themselves, are a near-human race, so as they appear no different from human except for being slightly bigger on average and slightly stronger. If they were studied one might come to the conclusion that they were descendents of an ancient colony of settlers from the Republic, but as it is the planet is nearly completely ignored because of it's pre-industrial state.

The people are separated into clans and lead by chieftains who rule over a single caer, or village. These are surrounded by wooden palisades. Each caer has a war band made up of the warriors (gaiscíoch) of the clan, led by a war chief who is usually the second in command of the caer. Painting their capall and themselves for battle is commonplace, usually with blue but colors vary from caer to caer. There is always a war of some kind going on, usually over trivial matters. A warrior gains honor from participation in battle, and the more victories he has the more treasure he accumulates from those he has beaten.

The chieftan wears a gold torc, but all others wear torcs of many different metals. Silver is sought after the most, and only the poorest wear copper.

The Tincéir

Basically gypsy/tinkers, the Tincéir do not live in caers but rather in caravans and wagons, traveling between the other settlements carrying news, gossip, and supplies.

Funerals

Upon death, funerary biers of whatever wood they found at their disposal would be constructed, honoring their departed with some of their most important belongings from this life, that they may have use of in the next. Bows and quivers of arrows, staves, drinking horns, and simple tools that had belonged to the fallen were laid out with them. For a night and day, they stayed as they lay. It was called Cuimhne na Mairbh, The Remembrance. The close kinsmen, and in the case of a chieftain, often the whole clann would gather to celebrate. It was a time of loss, but also a time of remembering, of honoring. At the sunset of the following day, the nearest living kin would be the first to touch flaming torch to prepared kindling. The rest would follow, and within minutes the bier would be engulfed in flame, sending the soul and possessions of the deceased spiraling in smoky ascension straight to the Abhairt Saoil. (link)

The Force

The Force is known to the people of Dhomanda A'lainn, they call it Abhairt Saoil, the Life Giver. Usually only women are trained in it's use, and use it to predict the weather and perform small acts of healing, along with an extensive knowledge of local healing herbs. Occassionaly someone will have an afinity toward precognition using the Force, and these women are called Banfáith or prophetess.

Notable Non-sentient Species

  • Aurochs - species of giant hairy ox
  • Capall - Horses
Characters from RX-271
Out of Character
The Roghnófar Daoine are basically ancient Celts and they speak Gaelic.
