Detective (Second Grade) John Jackson is an employee of the New York City Police Department. He specialises in crimes committed by suspected mutants, particularly those where the abilities of the perpetrator make them difficult to capture, detain, or in some cases identify in the first place. However, as a secret mutant himself, he also tries to prevent any mistreatment of mutants by the legal system, and to ensure that the protection of the law extends to include even those who are genetically "abnormal".

Detective John Jackson is a veteran member of the New York Police Department. Following a string of hard-to-solve crimes committed by individuals with mutant powers, Jackson became one of the founding and senior members of the NYPD's Mutant Crimes Unit. When a similar unit was established in Los Angeles, Jackson agreed to travel to California as an "ambassador of goodwill" from New York's MCU, to assist during their fledgeling stages.

|Jonathan Jackson Junior was born in Chicago: the son of a Police Detective and his musician wife. His life in the city was short however; his mother was killed in a car accident when he was three years old and, hoping to escape the ghosts and memories that the city held for him, John Jackson Senior moved to Brooklyn and joined the NYPD.

John lost his mother at a young age in a car accident; so young in fact that he has no memories of her. Until he was six he lived with his Police Officer father, but after he was killed in a shooting, he was adopted by "Uncle Jack", his father's partner. Orphaned by the Police, the department became his surrogate family: John spent a lot of time around the station waiting for Uncle Jack to finish his shift and take him home. No surprise then that he chose to join the NYPD himself.
+
John was eleven when his father died, shot by a suspect that he and his partner were trying to arrest. John was adopted by "Uncle Jack" - Detective Jackson Carter, his father's partner - but was raised with a department full of surrogate uncles and aunts in the shape of his father's old collegues.

John's powers were late-onset, manifesting during his twenties. A "hunch" based on one of the emotional imprints he detected led to the arrest and conviction of a homicide suspect. When the experience recurred, he considered coming forward and revealing his abilities, but was convinced by an aged and retired Uncle Jack that he could do more good if he kept his powers secret and used them to help people. Shortly after, he took and passed his Detective's exam.
+
It was inevitable that John would join the police force, and by the turn of the century he had become a Detective, partnered with Dwayne Stiles. As crimes committed by mutants began to increase in New York, the NYPD found itself needing to evolve with the times and find new ways to combat them. Jackson and his mutant was an asset that New York's newly-formed Mutant Crimes Unit could not afford to ignore.

Detective Jackson has taken a special interest in crimes that involve mutants, like himself. He believes that undue prejudice is applied by the Police Department towards mutants in general simply because of the actions of a few, and has made it his mission to see that the dangerous mutants are put behind bars while the innocent ones are afforded the same protection that "normal" people recieve by default.
+
For about a year, Jackson pursued a romantic relationship with Phillipa Heller, the representative of the District Attorney's office to the New York MCU. Like John she was a mutant, and for several months their relationship was blissful. But before long their respective powers got in the way: Jackson's psychometry forced him to relive the emotions of every argument they ever had, over and over again; and Phillipa's eidetic memory refused to let her forget the reasons. The two parted on less than amiable terms, and have not spoken since.

With former Philidelphia PD parner Dwayne Stiles, Jackson managed to get himself involved in the investigation of a number of crimes involving suspected mutants. Unfortunately, matters were initially complicated by Dwayne's attitude to mutants, and Jackson's resulting reluctance to reveal his abilities. A month or so later, New York MCU was approached by Michael Stern: an LAPD officer establishing a similar unit in Los Angeles. Having met Jackson before, he personally requested his help as an advisor and ambassador: to help bring the Los Angeles MCU get off the ground, and to provide cooperation and resource sharing between the LAPD and NYPD. Feeling that the change of scenery would do him some good, Captain Sean Pope agreed to "loan" Jackson to the LAPD on an indefinate basis.

|Psychometry - Jackson is able to sense the psychic imprint left on objects and areas by powerful or intense emotion. Older imprints only provide vague emotions, but with fresher imprints he experiences flashes of thought and image as well: enough to discern the cause of the emotion, but not to identify who it is specifically directed at. He can only sense the imprint on inanimate objects: he cannot read emotions from people.
Psychometry - By making physical contact with an object, John is able to obtain information psychically about the owner. This information comes in the form of flashed images - memories - which are a psychic imprint left on the object during events of intense emotional resonance. Instances of his power manifesting are seemingly random, and he cannot control when a flash will occur. This can cause to all kinds of complexities, as negative emotions can leave imprints as easily as positive ones: being forced to relive flashes of the experiences at a crime scene can be beneficial to his work, but can also be distracting, and even traumatic at times.

Detective John Jackson is a veteran member of the New York Police Department. When a similar unit was established in Los Angeles, Jackson agreed to travel to California as an "ambassador of goodwill" from New York's MCU, to assist during their fledgeling stages.

History
Jonathan Jackson Junior was born in Chicago: the son of a Police Detective and his musician wife. His life in the city was short however; his mother was killed in a car accident when he was three years old and, hoping to escape the ghosts and memories that the city held for him, John Jackson Senior moved to Brooklyn and joined the NYPD.

As crimes committed by mutants began to increase in New York, the NYPD found itself needing to evolve with the times and find new ways to combat them. Jackson and his mutant was an asset that New York's newly-formed Mutant Crimes Unit could not afford to ignore.

For about a year, Jackson pursued a romantic relationship with Phillipa Heller, the representative of the District Attorney's office to the New York MCU. Like John she was a mutant, and for several months their relationship was blissful. The two parted on less than amiable terms, and have not spoken since.

Powers / Abilities
Psychometry - Jackson is able to sense the psychic imprint left on objects and areas by powerful or intense emotion. Older imprints only provide vague emotions, but with fresher imprints he experiences flashes of thought and image as well: enough to discern the cause of the emotion, but not to identify who it is specifically directed at.
