Below are the facts we know from canon and/or TheHolo.net lore so far.

== New Republic ==
The New Republic is the result of the cold war between the [[Galactic Empire]] and the [[Alliance of Free Planets]], which began in [[10 ABY]]. The threat of mutually assured destruction using planet-destroying [[Starkiller]] warheads brough an end to open hostilities, and over time allowed diplomatic relations to slowly improve between the two powers. Eventually, the governments united amicably to form the New Republic - in large part because of economic considerations.

[[Salem Ave]], [[Taataani Meorrrei]], [[Delgado Xaanan]], and [[Ceto Rübezahl]] were all prominent figures in the peace process.

The New Republic is controlled by the Galactic Senate. Rather than remaining on [[Coruscant]], the Senate's location moves based on elections. The current capital is [[Hosnian Prime]], in the Core Worlds. Until a few years ago, Taataani Meorrrei served as Supreme Chancellor, but she was impeached and resigned after allegations of corruption and political misconduct.

New Republic Defense Forces were established from the merger of the Alliance and Imperial militaries. While older vessels from both sides are still in service, efforts are being made to replace them with new Republic designs that have no association with either preceding government - such as the new [[Viscount-class Star Defender|''Viscount''-class Star Defender]]. The main fighter of the New Republic is the [[T-85 X-Wing Starfighter]], replacing the older [[T-70 X-Wing Starfighter|T-70]] design.

== First Order ==
The First Order was conceived by [[Salem Ave]] (the Sith Lord [[Darth Callidus]]) and [[Delgado Xaanan]],  who became disillusioned with the disordered way that the New Republic operated. They sought to rearrange the galaxy in a more orderly fashion, learning from the mistakes of the New Order to create the template for a more effective Empire: one without the inefficient committees and congress of the New Republic, but also without the bloated bureaucracy of the Galactic Empire. Their preference for a single executive leader and their humanocentric attitudes won over support, particularly with monarchy governments like [[Onderon]], [[Hapes]], and [[Kuat]].

Using the [[Nightsisters]] of [[Dathomir]], Darth Callidus launched an attack against [[Ossus]], effectively wiping out the [[Jedi]]. Xaanan exploited this as a sign of weakness, leading several worlds to secede from the New Republic, and declaring himself Supreme Leader of the First Order. Though Callidus is believed to have since perished, his heir [[Tarek Avesca]] functions as Executor of the First Order. The Star Marshal of the First Order is [[Cortus Veers]], the grandson of Imperial General Maximillian Veers.

The main starship of the First Order is the [[Resurgent-class Star Destroyer|''Resurgent''-class Star Destroyer]], paired with the [[TIE/fo Fighter]]. Both are designed to overcome the flaws in their predecessors that made them vulnerable to the Rebel Alliance's starfighter tactics. The First Order's elite forces are at times reinforced by allies from the [[Hapan Royal Navy]] and other First Order worlds.

== The Resistance ==
The Resistance is a private military funded by [[Taataani Meorrrei]], the former Supreme Chancellor. It was created in response to the New Republic's inaction following the destruction of the Jedi and other actions by the First Order. The Resistance is small, consisting largely of military veterans and hired mercenaries, and relies on many of the same guerilla tactics that the Rebel Alliance used to considerable effect against the Empire.

Most Resistance pilots fly the [[T-70 X-Wing Starfighter]]: not as advanced as the new [[T-85 X-Wing Starfighter|T-85]] flown by the Republic, but far more readily available. The elite [[Gold Squadron]] is based at the Resistance base on [[D'Qar]], led by [[Siloo Jaska]]. The pilots of [[Red Squadron]] and [[Blue Squadron]] are based aboard the ''[[Challenger II]]'', as part of the Resistance flotilla known as the "[[Rogue Fleet]]".
