Tirptiz Bismarck De Hipper En Eugen El Nurnberg De Konigsberg Da Emden.

Yes were ships but named after famous people too.

Tirpitz was a Grand Admiral under Wilhelm II until 1918 when he went into exile. Largely responsible for creating the modern German Navy.
Bismarck was Prussian Chancellor, Ambassador to Russia, and later German Chancellor to Wilhelm I. He was largely responsible for creating modern Germany in 1871.
Sheer was Vice Admiral and C-in-C of the German High Seas Fleet 1915-1918.
Hipper was also Vice Admiral in WWI. He commanded the Battlecruiser Fleet.
Eugen refers to Prinz Eugen a member of the Imperial German Family who was something of a naval genius.

All these ships served WWII and were destroyed by Allied Forces during the course of the war. Bismarck was sunk 1941 after blowing up HMS Hood. The Scheer and Hipper were destroyed attacking convoys off the rusian coast. The tirpiz sat in a fijord for three years. Was sunk, refloated and sat in concrete as a gun battery. Sunk again.

And that's just off the top of my head! :D
