There was school.
And then there was a girl.
And there was dancing, and smiling.
Many people in one room, all trying to be heard.
And then there was no school.
And the girl drifted off.
There was dancing and smiling.
The world keeps spinning, I guess.

There's not a lot of things that are more frustrating than looking through your toolbox for a tool, only to discover that someone from another shift (who happens to have a key to my box) has gotten in there and taken it. What makes it even worse is that my name was engraved on it, so it's not like they don't know who's box to return it to. I'm changing my lock tonight.

One of the perks of having as many characters / accounts as I do is that you sometimes forget about some of them, which leads to amusing messages from Fans such as: "The Geth! We miss you!"
Then it stopped being amusing, because it made me think of Legion.

Hmm, according to Google Maps it would take 327 hours to drive the approximate 16,000 miles needed to get from Cape Town, South Africa to Vladivostok in Eastern Russia and then it is an additional 148 hours and 8,200 miles to get from Vladivostok back to Inverness, Scotland to conclude the Road Trip.

Bought a hookah.
Accepted a role as DM in one of the largest campaigns I've heard of (8-9 people). Being stupid, I decided it would be completely custom campaign, and so need to write out everything.
Played Skyrim.
Thought of 'Fans.
Went on another date, decided again that I don't like playing games with women. Realized that meant I was likely going to be celibate the rest of my life.
Played Skyrim again. Was told that the special edition of Skyrim with all the DLC attached came out for the PS3. Much squeeing ensued.

Well yeah, but the northern part of Europe (ie. Scandinavia, Russia, Iceland) gets pretty frikkin' cold as well. And the southern part (Spain, Croatia, Medeterranean, etc) gets pretty damn warm. The prospect of having to go to Comic Con on crutches ffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffuccccccccccccccccccc k
You will need:
- One wheelchair / chair with wheels / skateboard / roller skates / trolley
- One bin bag, the more garish the colour the better
- One whisk
- One sink plunger
- One black hat (preferably a bowler hat)
- Two jello pots
- One roll of duct tape
- Several boxes of cakes / jam tarts / cherry bakewells in those little silver trays
Step 1: Eat the little cakes.
Step 2: Cut a head hole in the bin bag like a ghetto theme park rain coat thingy.
Step 3: Cut off sections of duct tape and loop them up so they're sticky on the outside. Use this to affix the silver trays to the bin bag.
Step 4: Duct tape the sink plunger to the hat. A bowler hat would be particularly classy.
Step 5: Duct tape the (empty!) jello pots to the hat like ears.
Step 6: Put on the spangly bin bag and the hat.
Step 7: Sit in chair / stand on skateboard / etc. Get someone to push you if necessary.
Step 8: Hold whisk.
Step 9: Threaten everyone, and complain about all stairs.
Voila. Instant ghetto Dalek costume.

It's because..... okay it's because they are being dumb. Frankly it's Michael Keaton all over again. He CAN act, he's one of the best scriptwriters going and he's 3 out of 3 for direction. WB wanted him badly to direct and write and if this is the price to get his absolute quality with both..... then DO IT. If Affleck has anything to do with the script, it'll be a bloody good one. If he's involved in directing...... it'll be good.
Nerds are just going nerdrage and not thinking this one through at all.

Ok heat... seriously, I give. You can go away now... it's September... not August. Enough trying to roast us all into oblivion :x

We had a few days of rain and now we're going to have a week of summer again. I will take it when I can get it. Time to bust out the swimsuit and lay out in the sun and bake. Well not TODAY but in a few days when its 90 again. :D

Anyway, When I moved in my room was Barbie Funhouse purple and lavender. Ergh. I've since painted it slate blue, which is nice. The house has some flaws, like cracks in the walls from settling and an atrocious glass top range that I'm has been replaced with a gas stove. The downstairs half-bath is still nuclear green, but my roommate and I have been busy lately.
I've started running since moving up here. I'm slow, but I can do 2.8 miles without stopping. I ran a mile a pint short of blood, which was simultaneously incredibly stupid and triumphant. I did an incredibly dumb thing and signed up for a tough mudder at the beginning of November. It's 10 miles plus obstacles. I plan on finishing it, somehow, even though I can only run 2.8 miles right now. I'm not injury prone, and if I can will myself I'm sure I'll be able to finish. Most of the runs take place at breweries, so I run for my beer. The beer scene in the triangle is incredible. There are something like 5 good independent breweries here, and that does not count the stuff in other parts of the state, like Asheville.
I haven't talked about my job much, but it's a great gig. We have Beer Fridays, where there are kegs of beer at 330 PM, freeeeeee. Good craft beer, too. We have a dude who I met yesterday that is the chief beer officer. For the non-beer drinkers we have kegs of Angry Orchard cider and Abita Root Beer (which is awesome). The job itself is much more research based and less phones, which I love since I'm dealing with giant piles of numbers and finding needles in haystacks. Our proprietary file system is fascinating and I'm learning new stuff just about every day. I'm a bit grumpy about my lack of training and I've tried to remedy that but we're short of people on the floor. In fact, I did a single day of new employee orientation and then was yanked onto the floor the next day.
There are little things that make this place good, and it's such a relief to work for a real company again. For example, I had an ergonomic consult because I'm built with a bias towards limbs and got an adjustable keyboard drawer to stop my shoulder impingement. Also, real pay again.
I haven't done shit with my project car yet. Yet.
SOON.

AHAHAHAHAHAHA got that immediatly :D
My office LOVES the company Chris works for. We have a bunch of their products with dial home if they spot problems. Last week we had a disk fail and 40 minutes (!!!!) later the replacement turned up.... and we had no idea we had a failure at all. And just before that first we saw of it was the email with the consignment number 20 seconds after the failure - which hadnt even registered in my OnCommand session. That disk arrived in an hour.
Glad to see some companies know what service means.
(The whole the replacement disk turns up before we knew about the failure still WTF's us)

It's September, how is everyone?
Oh!
I'm good. My new job is a pretty steep learning curve, but I have done my first month in the role now and am feeling proud of myself. I've taken a role that really pushes me out of my comfort zone, in a lot of respects, so it's gratifying to realise that the things that I find challenging and scary are actually things that I can do, if I put myself in a place where I have to do them. I have soooo much to learn but I have 12 months (minimum) to learn it in, before I potentially go back to what I was doing before.

September? Well I'm still job hunting (*sigh*) and working on a huge pile of upcoming publications, right now a chapter for a hard copy volume in the UK, and then the book I have under contract in the US for 2015. I'm glad that while I'm still jobless, I have so many publications either completed or to be written, especially as those are all on subjects I love (Science Fiction and more Science Fiction!)

September is pretty much me hanging out with my kids (and husband), trying to watch what I eat and exercise. Nothing really changes which isn't BAD, but it's not great. First world stay at home mom problems, I know.
OH YEAH I have no friends to hang out with. My online hangout is sort of empty these days too.
