Ever since an ex with a massive, obsessive crush forced me to endure The Day After Tomorrow numerous times, I have had an irrational hatred for Jake Gyllenhaal. I've actively avoided any movie that he's been in: I've not even seen Donnie Darko or Brokeback Mountain.
Today, I watched Source Code by accident: I didn't realise he was in it. Not only did I enjoy the movie, I found myself actively liking Jake Gyllenhaal's character.
God damn you, Gyllenhaal. Don't go pulling a Ben Affleck on me. :shakefist

The first time around, I had no idea that my companions could get killed off. I managed to have Ashley shoot Wrex, and then I sent Kaidan and Ashley on the missions that made sense - Kaidan was my 2IC, so I sent him with the Salarians; and I left Ashley to guard the device. My FemShep had to go rescue the device because it was so important to the mission... I was gutted when Kaidan died. I tried carrying on with Ashley as part of my party, but her continued survival (and her personality) really started to grate on my nerves.
I had to replay the game from scratch as a Soldier, just so I could keep Kaidan and kill Ashley (and keep Wrex alive). :uhoh

Browsing my favourite site for finding places to stay (airbnb.com) and omg, I am so charmed by this one dude in Liverpool who will probably turn out to be a killer. His selling points are the commissioned artwork of his cats, Egyptian cotton sheets, and the hens he keeps in his wee yard to supply eggs to go with the never-ending supply of bacon that's apparently on hand.

Edit: I've been haunted by a thought all day. Anders Breivik. Surely, no human being can do what he did without some degree of insanity. His actions deviated so far from acceptable human behaviour that I can't help but think that anyone who does anything like that has to be touched in the head. Does anyone else feel this way? Admittedly, I'm treading the waters of a much deeper discussion, but there are crimes of passion resulting in murder and then there's this sort of thing: 77 people dead in about 4 hours, many youngsters, as young as 14 years old, all of which was premeditated, and he has only just today had the gall to apologise to his extremist cronies for not having killed more people. And they call him sane? I refuse to believe that.

I know where you are coming from and I am torn on this matter. I think in the end it would have been too easy to say he is crazy and normal people do not do this but the truth is this guy is a fachist and there are more of them all over Europe and we can't just close our eyes now that Brevik is in prison.
In the last century horrible crimes against humanity were commited in the name of fachism and just pretending that all of those nazis must have been crazy is too easy. Fachist propaganda is strong and dangerous and has to be fought wherever it starts to grow.

On the way back from LA, their scanning machine broke as I was going into it... so they waved me out of it.. and then acted like I had done something wrong, so gave me a proper rigorous pat down / grope while all my valuables sat on the opposite side of the room, within reach of anyone who wanted to grab them (passport included)
I was like
*inside* FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF
*outside* Oh, no. I'm terribly sorry.

I think they made me do the fucking macarena through that infernal machine. It's because one of the 9/11 tower flights left from here...I flew to Greece about 6 months after, and there were no machines then, just metal detectors and wicked over zealous 'random' patdowns. Because you know, my 80 year old grandmother looks like a terrorist bent on destruction with her wooden cane. They almost didn't let the damn thing on the plane.

Good for you, Dee. I have to admit to being more than a little jealous. If I could turn back time, I'd jump at the chance to study history instead of bloody geography, and later, psychology. Sadly, none of my credits from my old University will transfer (long, involved, painful story) so I'm starting at square one - but I really don't mind. Frankly, its been so damn long its probably for the best anyway! :)

Switch out European History with Liberal Arts - English (going to be an English teacher), and this is basically me. Including the family laughingstock line. Its been a dream of mine to work in a museum with artifacts for about as long as I can remember. In Indiana Jones & The Last Crusade, remember the scene with Indy's office? I just saw pictures of the new Robo Cop and somehow the design reminds me of Raiden as Grey Fox in MGS3.
I get it that in this decade everything has to be sexy and agile but I guess I am an old school guy that wants his Robots to look cluncky and to move mechanicly.
Sure it is more realistic that Robots are as agile as humans in the future because otherwise you would not need them to do human tasks in the end.
But I now see the remake of Star Wars in 10 or 15 years where AT-AT Walkers jump over snowy hills like leopard and AT-STs run through a forest as agile as ostrichs.
Well on the other hand in 10 years the 15th doctor will still be fighting clunky Cybermen and slow Daleks and this will make me happy.

So the first goal was to get this actor in the position of becoming presidential canidate and after that he was supposed to derail the Republican campaign like an overcrowded train in India.
Well, that would certainly explain the remarkable inconsistencies in his stance on myriad issues.
And it's utterly remarkable how people see only what they want to see in this Mitt Romney fiasco. Apparently, the footage was of a man speaking in favour of people taking responsibility for themselves, and not of a man labelling the much-touted 47 per cent of Americans not paying income tax as a bunch of lazy scroungers. In that 47% there are the unemployed, who, in the current economic climate, cannot be blamed for being unemployed, or at least certainly not all tarred with the same brush. Then you have students, the disabled, and the millions of pensioners, the latter of which is allegedly the most likely group to vote, and I don't think any of them take kindly to being accused of being the sorts to "believe that they are victims" and that "they should take responsibility and care for their own lives."
It was such a brazen and idiotically sweeping statement of the most compassionless conservatism, and to defend it as some sort of limp statement of independent culpability is absolutely repellent.

I was just joking with someone that my Guild Wars quests/etc were starting to sound like awesome Doctor Who episode titles, then this shows up as one of those orange circle event thingies:
Help U.N.I.T. destroy the Inquest.

I had a dream where there was a car crash.
I was walking through a tunnel underneath the house and followed it until I opened a screen door into the porch, which was full of odd and old items. No one was in the porch, but I could see something happening out on the street and as I walked up on it (it happened right outside the house), I saw it was an accident, things seemed weird, and I started to investigate.
For some reason I started investigating my house, which was an amalgamation of my house I live in now, my old one story house, and my grandmother's old house back when she lived up in Philadelphia. I searched through it for a while, and things just felt weirder, as I realized that the accident had killed my grandmother and my aunt (why hadn't anybody told me that they were the ones who had died?)
As I continued my search, I found items that seemed familiar but didn't belong, like pictures that had come out badly, but I remembered them being perfectly clear, and stories of people disappearing. I found myself back in the tunnel walking to the porch, when John, my cousin was there. I asked him what he was doing there now, since I'd just walked out of the room and no one was there. He answered, but I can't remember it now completely. All I remember is that he made a mention of a tape recorder grandma had left to me before she left.
I find the tape recorder in the porch on a table in a corner, and I press play.
"...river," Grandma says. She continues to speak (I wish I could remember the details!), but things get really clearer as she stops, and narrates the car accident that killed her. It ends in static, and I wake up.
What the hell? :colbert

"Stendhal said, 'Politics in a work of art is like a gunshot at a concert.' I'm only doing politics to this extreme extent this period because I believe the concert is now nothing but pistol shots, and one has got to speak up, and forget literature, and forget art, and remember that one is a citizen in an extremely fragile world."
Oh, Gore Vidal, you and your words. :love

Some people deal longer with Jetlag than others. I still had a hard time as well last week maybe you need a little while longer.

It's not to do with the jetlag, unfortunately - I was sleeping fine for the first week I was back, and feeling ok. It's just the last few days it's become a problem again... it's most likely my medical stuff. :\

Got pulled over this morning because my car matched the description of a getaway vehicle in a convenience store robbery in San Antonio.
I drive an intense blue Mini Cooper S Clubman, with the Union Jack on the roof. Why on earth would anyone pick such a conspicuous getaway car?!
I was late for work. Grrr....

We have been drinking cider for over two weeks now. I just refilled another growler and put it in the fridge, and had to grab a Good People IPA just for a tiny 12 oz break from the Strongbow action.
