The last thread served us well, spanning across 5 years worth of speculation, excitement and awesomeness. It's gotten too big for its boots, however, so it's time for a new GoT thread - and to christen it, here's a new trailer for season 2:

Yup it looks amazing.

I am kind of disappointed that the title: "A Clash of Kings" is not used for the marketing.

This is actually a thing that I like about the German marketing for the show: Season one is called a "Game of Thrones - A Song of Ice and Fire". Unfortunately they decided to use the same names like in the second edition of the ASoIaF books so that now some place and house names were translated into German while others were not.

It had about 6.4 million viewers overall and that doesn't count HBO GO or DVR numbers. There are rumors that when you count international viewers it was over 25 million which is pretty impressive. I think it is close to certain that we will get at least 4 seasons because of these ratings.

Melisandre is a fascinating character. I have always seen her as a grey character willing to do whatever it takes for what she see as the greater good. I put that in spoilers not sure if I needed to or not. As for her on on the show, she is pretty much what I imagined her and the actress is playing her perfectly.

She was perfect, about the kid with the arrow. I think that did basically happen in the book, but they just changed when it happened.

They altered quite a bit in Arya's storyline but really just took out a bunch of stuff in the middle and folded it together. I think it worked really well as an adaptation.

Yeah he was so evil last night. It is funny I still wouldn't rank him as the evilest character in the series. For me that honor goes to Ramsey Snow .
Last night was incredible, though, I really loved Arya's story and Daneyers finally did something this season. I really loved her speech to the 13. ^^This episode had no real climax well except for Renly's beautifull death scene but it was so full of nice little details. Like the way the Lannisters work and the way Arya's perception of the world has changed. The scene with Bronn and Tyrion in the market was a nice little setup for the things to come and even Daenerys's plotline was full of exotic images and nice little details.

The invitation to the house of the undying made me excited and thrilled.

So we are halfway into A Clash of Kings now and the best is yet to come.

Me too, that scene was great. They made some changes in this episodes. Most were very minor like Theon killing Roderick. I liked the changed with Daenerys, as it gives her more to do this season than in the book. Not sure where they are going to go without the Reeds unless they are being introduced next season.

Bette Davis
May 7th, 2012, 02:05:35 PM
I can see the Reeds (late CoK and SoS)being introduced part way into Bran and Rickon's journey next season. They have to have someone to join Bran, because Osha takes Rickon off to Skagos and Bran continues up north and he can't go by himself.

Changing that would be a bit too much I think. Especially when (DwD) Rickon's whereabouts are becoming a mission for Davos and Bran is becoming one with nature.

They call him that because (spoilerssss) Lord Bolton legitimizes him as heir later in the books.

In the show he's only been mentioned in the last episode where Bolton says "I could send my bastard from the Dreadfort and take care of the Iron Islanders" or whatever the exact wording was. If he was mentioned other than that I didn't catch it. :)

My husband has been annoyingly accurate with all his predictions while watching the show. :grumble

Two knights fighting, one is revealed as Loras, the other still is visored. He says "That's a woman, isn't it." And yesterday after the (a spoiler for more than yesterday's episode) two burned children reveal at Winterfell he says, "That must be the two other kids at that place, right?" Aggravating! :shakefist

Add to that the fact he threatened to stop watching the show unless I told him whether Theon lives or dies and he's being quite unruly.

"The Prince of Winterfell" stream of consciousness:

<strike>Asha,errr</strike> Yara Greyjoy can call me a cunt any day... :3

Eee, the Lord of Bones!

Yaaaawn at Robb and whatsherface. Do not care about this romance. Robb's best scenes are the ones with Catelyn in them.

The adventures of Jaime and Brienne :eee

Some great scenes with Tyrion this week. Loved his promise to Cersei and her gleeful, malicious grin as he left.. Oh you stupid bitch, Cersei :lol

"Where is the god of tits and wine?!" :lol

Go to the House of the Undying already, Dany. Just go! GO GO GO.

Kind of a slow episode this week... but :ohno so excited for Blackwater next week.

As someone who hasn't read the books, can someone please tell me that Catelyn Stark had a much better reason for letting the Kingslayer go apart from "oh I'm so worried about my daughters".

Honestly, dumbest move ever. In what universe would anyone consider that a good idea??? :twak

As someone who hasn't read the books, can someone please tell me that Catelyn Stark had a much better reason for letting the Kingslayer go apart from "oh I'm so worried about my daughters".

Honestly, dumbest move ever. In what universe would anyone consider that a good idea??? :twak

In the books a lot of things happen at the same time for her and she is basicly at the edge of her mind. (no real book spoilers ahead!)
In the book she receives the bones of her beloved Ned much later while she is nursing her father who is about to die and to make things worse she gets the news that her two sons were killed in the north. So this leaves her with only one son that is far away at war, one daughter that is a captive of the enemy and from her youngest daughter there is no proof of life.
Catelyn is from a proud and "fertile" family and in the books she is always analysing and judging her children all the time. She is basicly DAS UBER Mother and reminds me of my own.
So Catelyn's legacy is at stake at here, she is a widow(now with bones to proof it), the North/Winterfell is lost, three of her five children are most likely dead, she failed to secure an alliance with Renly leaving her only remaining son alone to fight the Lannisters and her father is dieing while her brother is basicly a total screw up.
So she walks down to the dungeon of Riverun confront Jaime who is kept as a prisoner there after his escape attempt. In the book you are 100% sure at this point she wants to take revenge on the kingslayer but infact she sets him free and asks him and Brienne to pledge that he will return to her what little is left of her family.

It's a decision that's a lot easier to understand and relate to in the books, for sure.

Its still arguably a very dumb move in the book, and she made it for an emotional reason not a logical one just like in the show.

Lyrics for upcoming bard contests:

<DD>And who are you, the proud lord said, <DD>that I must bow so low? <DD>Only a cat of a different coat, <DD>that's all the truth I know. <DD>In a coat of gold or a coat of red, <DD>a lion still has claws, <DD>And mine are long and sharp, my lord, <DD>as long and sharp as yours. <DD>And so he spoke, and so he spoke, <DD>that lord of Castamere, <DD>But now the rains weep o'er his hall, <DD>with no one there to hear. <DD>Yes now the rains weep o'er his hall, <DD>and not a soul to hear.

:ohno so ominous...

I like the fact that the song just deals with the start and the result of the conflict between the houses Reynes of Castamere (house sigil: A Red Lion) and Lannister of Casterly Rock (house sigil: A Golden Lion).

The unsaid things in the song just show how afraid people are even to speak out how Tywin Lannister paid his debt to the proud lord that dared to insult him.

Well house Lannister is badass and always tywinning!

In other news I just looked at the last song of the OST and it is listed as "Three Blasts" ... so we will see the attack of the white walkers on the fist of the first men at the end of this season. Awesome

Since casting for season 3 is already in full swing I would love to throw around some names for the new roles:

-Mance Rayder
-Edmure Tully
-The Blackfish
-The Queen of Thorns
-Beric Dondarrion
-Thoros of Myr
-Tormund Giantsbane
-Vargo Hoat

also confirmed:
the Reed Children

The probably most awesome suggestion so far was Maggie Smith for the Queen of Thorns aka Grandma Tyrel. Judi Dench would be a great choice as well but she does not have Maggie Smith's eyebrows.

I love the idea of David Wenham (Faramir!) as Edmure Tully since his natural hair is so close to Cathelyn's and Robb's red.

I personly would love to see Samuel L Jackson as Vargo Hoat: Saphhhires
For some reason I always expected Vargo Hoat to look African or Arabic.

Adam Baldwin is unemployed right now so he is availabel for playing the Blackfish. I do not know if he can do a good British accent but well at least he could finally look as old as he really is.

I am having a hard time to come up with a good actor for Mance Rayder since the actor must be able to sing and he is supposed to be a badass. Maybe Jared Leto with a manly beard and some more muscles... I would totaly believe him the story about this dornishman's wife and wine then.

BTW how good is Nicholas Cage's singing?

Yeah I think it could have revealed too much visually for future novels. We did get a glimpse of the possible future of King's Landing. And oh I loved the last scene with the White Walkers. The 'Boy' (production for season 3 + Asos/AFFC/ADWD) is almost certainly the Bastard. There was something on tumblr (someone else saw it not me) where someone saw Alfie Allen being brought down all crippled off a crucifix type thing with Iwan watching. They are showing some of Theon's transformation to Reek plus probably all that Bastard stuff from ACoK that was cut.

I expect that the show will do a lot of moving around of storylines due to the unconventional split narrative style of AFFC and ADWD, to make everything fit together in a way that doesn't leave characters off the screen for a whole season.

I (finally) watched it last night with my best friend, and I LOVED it!! I was really excited about the new season, but the first episode didn't disappoint at all (except one character I wanted to see who didn't show in that one, but hey, can't have it all at once).

I'm very very excited for the next episode already!

I think that is a good sign of how good the episode was. I know I was wanting more as well. I can't wait for next week. The best two scenes was the Tyrion-Tywin scene (man Tywin is such an ass), and the end scene with Barrister Selmy, he was such a bad ass there. Can't wait for the next episode.

It sucks it takes so long for them to show it OS. They need to fix this problem. The illegal downloads show this issue, as it was the most downloaded episode ever.

The ending to last night's episode has to be the most hysterical thing ever...Jamie gets his hand hacked off, and then they went right to the closing credits with that goofy indie rock song or whatever it was playing in the background...it's almost like the creative team is on acid or something this season. :lol

I love Brienne, OMG. :love

Last night was one of the best episodes of the show. It was amazing, and I loved the end when Dany took her slave army and sacked Astapor. I really loved when she spoke in Valyrian that was really awesome. Next week looks like it will be a lot of fun too.

I'm 2 episodes behiiiind.... CURSE YOU MOVING!

I'm at the point in the books where parts of it align with the show and parts aren't shown yet. I'm not sure I like knowing what's going to happen because it's not completely true to the book. I liked having seen the show and then read the book. I don't mind that they're different, but doing the book first and then the show, I get a bit perturbed because I see it in my head differently.

I thought as much. I was just having a little spaz out about Melisandre's comment that Arya would meet her again. Is that foreshadowing for something that happens in one of the books that isn't even out yet? :ohno

Omfg can the Queen of Thorns just be in EVERY ep from here on out? Everything that grumpy old lady says is solid gold.

Wow so... Don't play games with creepy bastards. (if there were any lingering doubts as to who this character actually is I think that pretty much sealed it.)

*shrug* Haters gonna hate. In season 1, Chance didn't have to listen to anyone because he was the boss... in Season 2 he couldn't be so cavalier, and I personally preferred that. It was like James Bond having M, rather than just letting the character run around doing whatever the hell he wanted without giving a crap about the consequences.

Regardless though, her scenes with Mark Valley were really well acted, and her stuff with Kevin McKidd in Rome was really well acted. Whether you like the character or not, she's still a good actress. ;)

Since Mace Tyrell has been cast now(GRRM confirmed Roger Ashton-Grifiths casting). We still do not know who Gatiss will be playing. In other news the actor of Podrick and Brienne were caught filming a scene together last week. This means we will get scenes from a feast for crows as well this year.
