I'm not sure when we're getting into Atlanta but the British Media 'track' is having a pre-con dinner on Thursday, 30 August 2012 @ 6.30pm at the Haveli Indian Restaraunt (https://www.facebook.com/pages/Haveli-Indian-CuisineGift-Mart/111717515532370). Indian food plus nerds.

Could be fun :)

Lemme ask the wife when our reservation is. If we're in town, we'll go.

Also, I may have a little something lined up mid week where we borrow my sister's lake house and party for a day or two. Will know more later

Checked out stubhub today. Western Kentucky game I can get 12 tickets for us all seated together for that game. They're upper deck seating and are $111.00 each. Want to make sure we're all on board for this, and get an exact number.

111 each ticket for upper deck seating? No thank you. Tailgating is much more fun.

Emelie Shadowstar
Jun 3rd, 2012, 05:20:28 PM
I'm cool for that too if that's all it comes down to being.

Charley
Jun 3rd, 2012, 05:25:24 PM
If we want to just pool together as a tailgating group and have a select group of dedicated crazies go to the game itself, that's also cool.

So basically: each person let me know if you're down for tailgating + game or just tailgating.

That way we'll all go and we'll all tailgate if we can, and those of us who want to pony for tickets can do that also. We'll get plenty of game atmosphere either way.

Dasquian Belargic
Jun 4th, 2012, 06:20:34 PM
Maybe we should all just do tailgating? I would rather everyone be together than split up (has dark banana taught you nothing?!)

Captain Untouchable
Jun 4th, 2012, 08:59:05 PM
The tailgating party will have the Sleepy Man of Thorwal to protect them, so they'll be fine. Just so long as Charley doesn't go picking fights with the arena guards again...

Morgan Evanar
Jun 4th, 2012, 09:31:22 PM
Yeah for that much scratch I'd rather tailgate. It's not like WKY is a big rival.

Iasos Kontarr
Jun 4th, 2012, 09:38:08 PM
Whatever people decide is cool :) we could put together some epic food and have just as good a time :)

Speaking of - Charley, I'm going to need grape leaves.

Emelie Shadowstar
Jun 4th, 2012, 10:48:20 PM
Tailgate sounds just dandy then!

Besides.... We can always use a proper game as incentive to come back again? ;)

Cirrsseeto Quez
Jun 4th, 2012, 11:12:59 PM
The consensus seems to be for tailgate only...which is fine. Wish we could all go in for the experience of being among over 100,000 fans in one spot (which makes rammer jammer a helluva lot more fun) but I can understand how the price might be steep for everyone to partake. Besides, there's tons of stuff to do at the tailgate, and I'm sure at least somebody nearby will have the game on PPV, or at least the radio.

I'll have to co-ordinate to see if we can squeeze into the usual spot we stay at on the quad. If not, we'll tailgate still, it'll just be a longer schlep probably.

Speaking of - Charley, I'm going to need grape leaves.

Jar or fresh? I can get the latter for sure, but fresh I'm not sure where to look around here.

Iasos Kontarr
Jun 5th, 2012, 12:43:00 AM
Jar is totally fine. I'm thinking stuffed grape leaves would be deliciously good tailgate food, and instead of making them in the chicken/lemon/egg concoction I could make that separate and have it as a dipping sauce.

Dasquian Belargic
Jun 5th, 2012, 12:34:14 PM
Tailgatung it is then? We can still do chants and face paints right?

Taataani Meorrrei
Jun 5th, 2012, 12:41:46 PM
Oh yes absolutely. You probably have a better chance to be a crazy fan at the tailgate since there's easy booze access and stuff you can't bring in the stadium anyway

Will there be something like a big TV screen for the public to watch the game from the outside or will we have to bring our own TV setup?

Sanis Prent
Jun 5th, 2012, 11:25:17 PM
There will probably be a bazillion TVs around and even if this game is PPV only I'm sure plenty of people will buy into it. I'm gonna see if we can hit up the usual spot which ought to have everything we need. If not, we just have to make friends.

The good thing about tailgating is that its pretty much a town-wide party. We're all out there hanging out and drinking, eating, rooting for the Tide, and playing catch, beer pong, cornhole, or whatever.

Tristan Alastor
Jun 11th, 2012, 11:03:01 AM

Jun 19th, 2012, 06:30:57 PM
Ok so what's the exact plan as far as day of the caravan to the con? :) Thurs the 30th or Fri the 31st? I'm probably gonna be looking at tickets this week and still looking on tripping it out with the group if it's cheaper to fly into Alabama as opposed to Atlanta the day of...

Earlier post tells me we have "two queen rooms from August 30th till September 2nd" - so I'd guess that we can actually check in on the 30th.. unless I am misunderstanding :uhoh

Hey guys in the pre-con crowd:

Since Christin has to work early that week, I was thinking we might have the folks who will be here go over to lake Logan Martin for the day so we can party on a pontoon boat, since we've got a lake house on lease over there and my parents just bought a boat.

How's that Tuesday sound?

I have no idea what that means but sure!

Also I'm gonna try to put together an itinerary for folks, so we have something to do more or less every day. I may keep a day or two of slumming it at the house in the mix, for flavor, but not sure yet.

Right now, things we're ruminating on are:
Trips to local breweries: Good People and Avondale in Birmingham, Straight to Ale and Yellowhammer in Huntsville. Maybe more. I need to see who else have tap rooms and public tours.
Desoto Caverns: The first catalogued cave in the United States, which is something obscene like 12 stories high at max ceiling. The Confederacy used to process gunpowder there, and it used to be a native graveyard.
NASA's Space & Rocket Center: SCIENCE! They have super cool stuff like a massive Saturn V rocket on site and other assorted aerospace goodies.
Firing range: If we don't just fire guns in my back yard, there's a decent spot in Pleasant Grove, a 20 minute jaunt towards Birmingham.
Redneck spotting: Not really sure, basically just going backroads as hell and finding some really boonie-ass rednecks to gawk at.
Lake Logan Martin: ON A BOAT! Drinking, partying, maybe fishing. I don't know.
Barber Motor Speedway: Mainly a Chris thing, but they have an open track for you to haul ass on if that's a thing you're into.
Bass Pro Shop: Part superstore. Part theme park. All redneck.

Unless my financial situation changes a lot and I can make some mods to my car I'll skip Barber. As it stands a track day has a fair shot at grenading my motor.

So I would be OK with that but if Monday is not really necessary I would be cool with Morgan's idea as well.

The Sheraton's website says there are rooms available sunday night. I will call tomorrow morning. If that's the case, then all we'll have to do is switch rooms and not an entire hotel.
