Winterhawks have the opportunity to clinch their spot in the WHL Western Conference finals on Friday night. After getting punched in the nose and going down 5-1 at home the first game in this second round, they bounced back and have won three in a row, one at home and both on the road.
This is so exciting, all the years I've been following them we've never made it out of the second round before. Owen is getting a faux-hawk to show solidarity.

My dream project for the USN over the next ten years; Comission a dozen more Comfort class Hospital Ships, a few mobile Desalinization conversions from Cargo Carriers, perhaps a couple of Freshwater carriers from VLCCs if that doesn't work out, plus maybe a few mobile power plant ships by stacking rows of retractable Solar Panels onboard a ULCC conversion, and adding the power lines that would play out to the mainland of the hard hit areas. It would be called the Rapid Relief Response Force (3RF) Task Force, and like our current level of carriers and escorts, would be able to deploy to multipule disasters at once if the need arose. Foreign deployments for best response times; Two in Singapore, one in Hawaii, and one in Bermuda. I think that would be best to cover where the disasters typically happen.

'The only one who can ever hold you back is yourself. Nobody else can stop you from doing anything, nobody can make you do anything. You have all the power in the world, so use it. Don't ever stop moving forward, even if it hurts as long as you keep moving you'll get where you need to go. Sure there are going to be scars, but you can look at them and say "I made it through that because I'm strong." People will come into your life and effect you in ways you could never imagine, sometimes for good, sometimes for bad but either way you take it all and learn from it. Remember those happy times and strive for them, and remember the horrible times so you can stand up to it when it comes again. Don't ever be deceived by people, and always be careful when you open your heart, because in the end that's what we are. We are our hearts, and what kind of heart do you want to be?'

Bermuda is too far north to get anywhere in the Carribean or northern South/Central America quickly. Europe generally has enough resources to cover it's own.

Every time I've played Rome, I wait until I get a massive army and position the camera just so, and intone "Begun, the Clone Wars have."
I think Shogun 2 already is out, though that just might be the Steam release (if they have different release dates). I haven't played it yet, because my only friend with a computer than can run it lives in Newport News, which is not ergonomic for playing a Total War game and having a life on the other side of the bay.

If you ever start up a game, give me a holler. I'd love to try the multiplayer and see how it is.
Chosokabe and Shimazu start off with some serious advantages, the biggest of which is their proximity to the far west trade ports. I haven't tried the Mori but I imagine they're similar given their starting location.
Myself, I have a soft spot in my heart for the Takeda. Their starting position makes me sad though.

Oh I so will do that. I've never played online with Total War as the strategy element attracted me more than the tactical, and truth be told, I was scared of being owned all the time. I like what I'm hearing about the online multiplayer for Shogun 2 though.
Is the starting position for ol' Takeda any different from Shogun 1? They had it pretty rough there too; they either stuck it out up north or down south, but rarely managed to hold both, even with Shingen and Tokugawa.
Pierce Tondry
Apr 24th, 2011, 09:27:12 PM
In this, Takeda starts with the province of Kai. They're allied with the Imagawa to the southwest and have a trade agreement with the Hojo to the southeast, so unless you do something stupid you don't really have to worry about attack from the south. However, the game leads you to attack North Shinano, the province immediately to the north. Once you do that, you suddenly have four neighboring provinces with avenues of attack. If you are able to build up your army enough to hold two fronts effectively, you'll be fine on defense. Any move to expand, however, puts you at risk of trading off one province for another and that's especially likely since you are surrounded by clans of historical significance on all sides. The safest thing to do is to build an army and then send it out to conquer only one territory, where it will sit and defend access to the rest of your territory, about four times. Hiring that many units kills a small economy and since most other starting positions only need two or three armies for defensive and offensive coverage, it puts Takeda at a strong disadvantage in the early going.
Don't get me wrong, I found ways around those problems. But there were definitely a few years where my troops were thinly spread.

How the hell do you get through to a sixteen year old girl who's more interested in her iPod and Facebook than her studies, has repeatedly brought poor reports home from school, whose parents are ashamed to go to Parents evening because of how poorly the teachers speak of her? The worst part is they all say the same thing - she has so much potential and is very bright when she applies herself but is just so lazy and prefers turning around and chatting to friends than paying attention to the teachers lesson. Her friends won't be able to get her a job when she leaves school!
My parents have had calls off the teachers asking why she hasn't done her homework - as far as we know she does it in her room but it's got to the point now where we just cannot take her word on anything because of the amount of lying she does. She even had the gall to tell her IT and Graphics teachers that she can't do the homework because she does not have the internet at home - she's never off the fucking thing!
My mum called me just now to say she feels ashamed because my sisters graphics teacher just called her and asked her if there's any way at all she can supervise Lauren for the entire evening every night this week and watch her do her coursework because if nothing changes, she will not get good enough grades to get into Sixth Form (for those in the US, UK 6th Form is for 16-18 year olds and is basically prep for degree level).
She's already been grilled in the past and it doesn't seem to have changed her attitude. SO I tried sitting and speaking with her, trying to make her understand how important it is that she take her GCSE's seriously, rather than shout in her face, but it doesn't seem to have made any difference. My mum is worried as well as angry. The problem is she can be sitting on the laptop and my dad will ask her what she's doing...
"My homework"
For all my dad knows, she is. he hasn't got a clue when it comes to computers/the internet. He's slowly learning, using Youtube on the laptop I gave him but thats as far as his knowledge goes. Whereas if I look at her screen I know what kinda stuff she shouldn't be on when doing homework but I'm not always there. The biggest issue is we shouldn't have to do any of that, she's been told enough times and had enough bad reports to know that she needs to pull her finger out.
At the end of the day it's her own future she's fucking up. Her attitude stinks. When she brought her report home before Christmas her answer to the poor grades was 'they're only mock exams', or 'everyone else did just as bad'. Totally the wrong way to look at it!
The only thing we hadn't done to try to punish her was stop her pocket money. I give her £30 a month and suggested I stop it until we see an improvement but my mum said 'You can't do that, thats too much'. The way I see it right now, she doesn't bloody deserve it.

Ah, Peter.. :( I feel for you. The economy being what it is, it's even more frustrating to hear teenagers with that kind of attitude because you know that they could be setting themselves up for much harder of a fall than they realise.

Did you guys try parental controls on her computer so she can only do homework? Just a thought... although if she can easily figure out how to get around it then that's that. And I would cut her pocket money without a doubt. Tell her she gets it if she gets good grades otherwise she might as well get a job flipping burgers because that's what she's setting herself up for. And of course, grounding her from friends, etc.
It may be get tough on her, or wash your hands of it. If your mum doesn't think it's serious enough to warrant cutting her allowance then your sister probably already knows she can continue to get away with this. :hug tough situation

Looks like my sister accidentally sent a text to my mum instead of her friend. Apparently my mum came home with a face like she wanted to stab her (what fucking horrific thing to say to your friend about your mother) and apparently some guy called Paddy is never speaking to her again because everybody thinks she's a slag.
I haven't got a fucking clue who this person is but it certainly does not sound like my sister. Shows just how good of an actor she can be. I wanna know what she's been doing to make everyone think she's a slag. I need to keep away form the situation directly and just find out from my parents what's going on because if I get involved I'll just lose end up cracking her!
She's such a priveledged young girl, she literally wants for nothing. She's not spoilt by a long shot, she doesn't always get her own way but she's by no means hard done to. We give her enough leeway and independence as we think she both deserves and is mature enough to handle. I guess this goes to show just how immature she really is to have such a shitty attitude towards - in a very serious way - her future.

That would be significant for me as well, though not 40% significant. Unfortunately, with the VA state budget the way it is, none of us are looking at raises until next fiscal year at soonest (begins July 1st) and realistically not for a few more years after that. We've already not had raises for the past three to five years. :/
I'm glad you're getting something though. It's probably not easy to negotiate raises/salaries with two kids to provide for.

Frankly in this situation it isn't, I suppose you'll have to take my word on that. The man has literally made/saved this company millions of dollars, built up his department to be the best in the business from the ground up, has created training manuals and company handbooks that they are looking to use companywide (not just in Oregon) and has been working night and day for their stupid asses doing stuff they can't and fixing their messes.
The fact that he's upper management with thirty people answering to him and only one district away from supervising the whole state of Oregon and there are Portland sales guys who make more than him as their base salary (not to mention bonuses and such on top) - YES it is insulting.
Augh I am still raging over it. :cry it's not the money we're doing fine, it's just that they're marginalizing everything he's done for them and all the family time he's sacrificed to make them money.

In the absolute sense of the words, yes... in the reality that this morning is Canadian federal politics, no... Harper runs his party and the country like a dictator, controlling everything. Only difference between that and an actual dictator is that in 4 years if people smarten their asses up we can vote him out, or at least give him a minority government.
All I hope is that he doesn't fuck up this country too badly, cause looking at it right now, he could set us back decades with some of the policies he's about to put in place.

Turn-based games are evil! Just. One. More. Turn.
Damn, it's five-thirty AM!
CIV or Shogun?
At the moment, Alpha Centauri. But once I've finished a few games, most likely Civ2 and a bit of X-Com (paid something like £2 for it on Steam)

And it has begun! A new round of fun times for railfans as I was questioned and searched by three Federal Agents while out trainwatching last night. Didn't expect it to start happening this soon, but not in the least bit suprised that it did happen after the stuff found in the OBL raid was circulated.

Seriously, Kevin James, you are messing up my fucking Friday. If you were Mark Wahlberg, I wouldn't care. But you? No. GTFO of my city, stop blocking the street I work on, and tell your freak security to stop glaring at me while I get coffee. Its not my fault the miserable fuckers parked your trailer in front of my office building.
And by the way, enjoy the mad rush that always happens at Al's for lunch. Your trailer is blocking them too.

Really? I enjoyed it. Although, I admit, I've never read the books.

It was one of my fav books as a kid - such a clever, keen little tale and while it had a lot of wit it wasn`t anything like the film. If the movie had just been a movie it would have been really enjoyable (though I don`t think I`d have let the kids watch it then, either.)
I feel like such a negative nellie lately! Why can`t I be satisfied? :lol
At least there`s always Sean Bean.

In kitchen, turn on hallway light. Turn off kitchen light. Walk down hallway, turn on bedroom light. Turn off hallway light. Walk into bedroom, turn off hallway light. Close door. Lock door. Shimmy into bathroom with back to the wall, turn the light on. Leave bathroom light on. Turn off bedroom light, dive from locked door onto bed and turn around with fists at the ready. Crawl under covers. Shudder.
