So the Help Nathan Buy Firefly (http://helpnathanbuyfirefly.com) site has its pledge system up and running - http://helpnathanbuyfirefly.com/pledge/

If you'd be willing to shell out some dough for another season of Firefly, go and pledge. As they say, its not legally binding and you can't actually send any money (as no one official has said they'd be able to do anything with money, if they had it), but its just to show Fox and Universal that there is hypothetical money out there and fans willing to pay it.

Something else, here (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/8353367/Deportivo-Pereira-defender-Luis-Moreno-kicks-Atletico-Juniors-owl-mascot-during-match.html). Dear Fitz:

I love you more than anyone else in this world (except maybe my kids), to an excess that is unreasonable. I would do anything for you, up to and including helping you cover up a murder committed in a fit of righteous passion. There are no words to describe how very proud of you I am. You're a go-getter. You went out there and got your training certification and painstakingly worked your way up the ladder with a single-mindedness that is breathtaking, dedicating untold hours of sweat and tears until you got that position that you wanted, training the sort of people that you aspired to train, and that's amazing.

I love that even though you charge a boatload to clients, you're always there to provide free fitness advice for the family and stave off workout boredom with new drills and routines, that you're right there sweating it out with me during our Insanity workouts (which you introduced me to) and right there after, helping to prepare the perfect post-workout snack. I love, love, love you for including one glorious spoonful of (real) vanilla ice cream at the end of particularly killer sessions.

You? Are awesome and inspiring and lekker, man.

... but I really, really, really don't want to go to your CrossFit class. :(

Yes, when the light turns green, you are indeed supposed to start moving forward again. No, the far left lane on an Interstate is not the lane reserved for people who travel 30 mph under the posted speed limit. Yes, it is polite to use turn signals before moving into another lane. No, it is not advisable to continue texting while making an sudden stop followed by an illegal U-turn and almost getting T-boned instead of just traveling an additional 50 or so feet to make a U-turn at the traffic light. Yes, it wouldn't really hurt you in the latter case to wait a couple of minutes for the light to change. Yes, some people have to go to work in the evening, not everyone is on their way home from work, which means you really are being a bunch of dimwits by traveling 15 mph under the posted speed limit and slamming on brakes as soon as the turns yellow when the next seven or eight cars behind you could have made it before it turns red. :twak :twak :twak

Today, I was cut off while driving. Not unusual, given that I live in Massachusetts, land of the proud Massholes. What was different today, you ask? Well, today I was cut off while stopping at a red light. Even with oncoming traffic, a bright yellow taxi decided that red meant go. So he peeled around me and blasted through the intersection. What amused me the most was that it was a NYC taxi. Who promptly got pulled over by the squad car waiting at the opposite light.

"Our story is the story of the universe. Every piece of everyone, of everything you love, of everything you hate, of the thing you hold most precious, was assembled by the forces of nature in the first few minutes of the life of the universe; transformed in the hearts of stars or created by their fiery deaths. And when you die, those pieces will be returned to the universe in the endless cycle of death and rebirth. What a wonderful thing it is to be a part of that universe, and what a story. What a majestic story!"

Most of the time, white people consider celebrations of European heritage to be racist unless they omit large swathes of the 16th through 20th centuries. But since the Irish never engaged in colonialism and were actually oppressed it is considered acceptable and encouraged to celebrate their ancestry. For this reason, 100% of white people are proud to claim that they are somewhat Irish.

I think hiking in Hawaii and then doing yoga on a mountain top would be much more enjoyable.

My mom has her MRI tomorrow. I'm trying to stay positive (and distracted)... She had a good conversation with her new doctor (her old doctor wouldn't even call her back, this one took her call and talked with her about everything she was going through - really bad dizzy attacks on Sunday, more episodes every day this week, getting weak in the knees to the point of buckling, not being able to safely drive anymore) and told her that if he couldn't figure out what was going on with her he would make sure he got her to someone who could. So, she feels better, but still not great. She's trying to stay positive but I know she's worried.

Not sure how my dad is feeling, but probably not great either. :(

Dear little brother,

You seem to be really annoyed with your job. This is understandable, considering your job. Instead of bitching about it (and really, having to work three days in a row is a pretty fantastic deal) why don't you do something about it? Like... oh, I don't know, come work full-time for the family biz and make a decent living and get to use the skills that you went to school to cultivate? There's a crazy thought.

Please stop being twenty soon.

Love,

Me

On another note, I'm suprised at how quiet its been in the tropics as of late. Apart from a couple of Cyclones in the South Pacific near the Fiji Islands, its been totally quiet, everywhere around the world.

Apparently it's called a train effect where showers and thunderstorms just pile on like this. It was still raining when I went to bed and it's still raining when I just woke up right now. Flood advisories have gone out for a lot of local rivers and creeks for them hitting flood stage overnight tonight. Sand bag distribution centers are starting to pop up all over the place.

And to think we were so bone dry just four days ago. :|

EDIT: We're approaching six digit figures for the number of people without power. Semi-trucks have been overturned by possible tornadoes on both I-75 and I-275 in Tampa, there are downed trees and powerlines all over the place, and the Sun-N-Fun flyin has been closed in Lakeland after a number of tents collapsed and several aircraft have been overturned by high winds.

Death is such a strange mystery to me. My human brain is far too simple to make the connection between the man who walks and smiles and a man who is empty and still. We can pretend to make sense of it with comforting stories but, despite our beliefs there can be no dispute, it is one of the great unknowns. It doesn't make me sad, and I wonder if it ever will, it is seeing the suffering of others that breaks my heart. We call it a fact of life, and we wonder why, and then even the most profound of questions becomes moot. We are, after all, simple human beings and that is perfectly alright.
