I played it last year for about a month or so and it wasn't my cup of tea. The skill system was too simple and the missions were too repetitive... I dread to think about how many snake-pits I cleared out.

..but I know that at least Miranda is still playing regularly and seems to have fun with it :) I suppose like all MMORPGs, if you can find a good group of people to play with, you'll probably enjoy it.

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. — July 6, 2009 — Fans have asked and LucasArts has delivered! Today the company announced a new initiative in its effort to revive its classic and beloved franchises by making its games available for the first time ever as digital downloads online.

In this first round of releases, ten fan-favorite LucasArts PC games will be made available Wednesday, July 8 on Steam®, Valve Corporation's delivery and management platform for the PC. Scheduled for release are classic adventure titles like LOOM™ and The Dig® and hit action games including Star Wars Battlefront® II and Star Wars Republic Commando®.

The complete list of games to be released on July 8 via Steam includes:

Armed and Dangerous™
Indiana Jones® and the Fate of Atlantis
Indiana Jones® and the Last Crusade: The Graphic Adventure
LEGO® Indiana Jones: The Original Adventure
LOOM™
Star Wars Battlefront® II
Star Wars Republic Commando®
Star Wars Starfighter™
The Dig®
Thrillville®: Off the Rails™

LucasArts previously announced the return of the classic Monkey Island® franchise with two new projects due to be released in the near future. Tomorrow, July 7, Telltale will premiere the Tales of Monkey Island™ game series, delivering a completely new epic storyline and swashbuckling flair that will unfold across five monthly episodes on PC and WiiWare™.

The Monkey Island celebration continues on July 15 when LucasArts publishes The Secret of Monkey Island™: Special Edition, a completely re-imagined version of the first game in the series that adds updated high definition graphics, a re-mastered musical score, and full voiceover to the classic adventure game originally launched in 1990. The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition will be made available on Xbox LIVE® Arcade for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system fr

Oh if you have never played LOOM before check it out! This is my secret favorit adventure. I do not recommend it to people so often because it is not so attractive to a wide audience but IMHO this game was ahead of its time in visuals and story telling. But unfortunately it was not a commercial succes and so it never became the epic trilogy that the first one had kicked off.

The Secret of Monkey Island™: Special Edition is now on Steam - and at an affordable price :)

Back by popular demand, The Secret of Monkey Island™: Special Edition faithfully re-imagines the internationally-acclaimed classic game (originally released in 1990) for original and new audiences alike. The development team at LucasArts is bringing the game into the modern era with an all new re-imagined contemporary art style, a re-mastered musical score, full voiceover, and an in-depth hint system to help players through the game’s side-splitting puzzles. Purists will also delight in the ability to seamlessly switch between the updated hand-drawn re-imagining and the original classic version.

The game's twisty plot leads our naive hero on a hilarious, swash-buckling search for the fabled secret of Monkey Island. Tales of pirate wealth lure him to the port of Mêlée with high hopes, no money, and insatiable curiosity. If clever enough, he will win the confidence of Mêlée's pirates and find himself blown by the winds of fate toward the terrifying and legendary Monkey Island -- an adventure that would chill the bones of even the most bloodthirsty buccaneer.

Yep, I purchased the game on steam, and actually played it from beginning to the end credits in one sitting yesterday. Ah, the memories.. :)

I love the updated graphics / voices, and they totally kept the original game intact. I hope it will be a huge sales success so Lucasart revamps some of their other classics. I am praying for an updated version of Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis.

I also played through the first episode of Tales of Monkey Island. Although it has a weird art direction, so so story and clunky 3D graphics, I thought it was quite entertaining. In the end, I just love the adventurous piratey feel and crackpot humor of these games regardless. I'll be waiting for the price to drop until I get a licensed copy of that one though.

X3: Terran Conflict is an absolutely brilliant game. It's more of the same for people who have played the other games in the X series, but I've enjoyed many hours exploring, fighting and trading my way through the X galaxy. It can be a daunting venture at first, but X3: Terran Conflict offers a much-improved user interface which makes finding your way around and actually interacting with the game world much simpler and fluid than X3: Reunion.

I'm still not very far into the main quest - I've closed the gate at Kvatch and escorted Martin and Jauffre to Cloud Ruler Temple. I'm currently doing dungeon runs to level up a bit, as well as make some gold selling what I loot. Got 12,000 gold so far, and the best house in the game costs 25,000 to buy.

Ohhh is this your first play through ever?

Peter McCoy
Jul 31st, 2009, 04:50:57 AM
I've restarted a few times to refine my major skills. But this is as far as I've ever gotten, yes. Got it on PC and PS3. I may start a game on my PS3 since I can play this whilst in bed (wireless controller and headphones) and do a completely different character.

I'm an Orc...technically warrior, but I made a custom class so that I can level up more efficiently. Major skills are Hand-to-Hand, Armourer, Alchemy, Desctruction, Sneak, Acrobatics, Illusion. I've read tht only certain enemies level up with you, so I'll eventually reach a point where most enemies I encounter in dungeons will be a walk-over. I may have to search for a mod to change that.

I save sooo often! It's really frustrating when I accidentally level my 10th major skill, which basically freezes my possible attribute bonuses when I level up. I make sure to reload and avoid the skill-up until I've got 2 minor skills up by 10 - gotta love those +5 bonuses! I'm aiming to get endurance to 100 ASAP to get the most from the health increases you get when you level up.

This (http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Oblivion) is basically my bible right now.

^^ I am still playing that Tombraider Game, about 3/4th the way through. What can I say, it's a ridiculously fun game. I've not had so much fun playing a game in years. The puzzles eventually gets hard though, so you will need this guide (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tpLg4yfV9zc) for when you're stuck. Other than some camera issues and sometimes difficult to spot climbable ledges, it's really a flawless game. I'd urge you to get it for the -75% discount before the offer expires.

Crusader

So you really like underworld? Have you played Legends? Many people told me that Underworld was not as good as legends that's why I avoided it.

Yog
Dec 7th, 2009, 03:39:36 AM
Yeah, I love Underworld. I have not played Legends. But I will give it a try after this, because if it is half as good, it's well worth it.

I gave up on the Tom Raider games way back, because the way I remembered them, they were really frustrating requiring pixel perfect timing on the jumps. In this game, the character is good at holding on to ledges, and the challenge is more figuring out how to progress. The times I fell down was mostly me trying to experiment or being casual, once you figure out the route, it's easy to climb. I guess the Tomb Raider games improved a lot in this regard?

One difference to Legends that I can spot right away is the graphics. While Legends look dated in the screenshots, Underworld looks fantastic, one of the best looking games I seen, toe to toe with the likes of Crysis.

Peter McCoy
Dec 7th, 2009, 01:03:45 PM
'Angel of Darkness on PS2 was the bump in an otherwise very good road for the Tomb Raider series. The controls were very unresponsive and it was, as Yog mentioned - a case of precision jumping with said awful controls.

When Core Design were canned in favour of Crystal Dynamics 3 years later, thats when it got back on track.

I haven't played either Underworld or Legend, but I've played the one in the middle (released in-between) which was Anniversary. Basically a re-make of the original with improved graphics and gameplay features such as smoother, more fluid movement and combat as well as a vastly-improved climbing system. I remember the fourth level where you open up the waterfall and enter the tomb. The room is relatively well-kept but they you go through a tunnel/corridor which is more like bare earth and you can see the dust and dampness hanging in the air, it was so awesome. It reminded me of Raiders of the Lost Ark at the beginning when Indy's exploring that vault.

Yog

I just completed the game. That ladies and gentlemen, was awesome to the max! The game starts out kinda good / entertaining, evolves to great, and eventually you're salivating by the whole experience, and I am not talking about Lara's boobs..

Visuals: Absolutely stunning graphics and genius art design.

Sound: Let's put it this way, I had my 5.1 system really loud. If you have a decent surround sound system, your ears will love you.

Immersion: Heart pumping adrenaline factor, and level of immersion so you think you're starring in an Indiana Jones movie. Hell, this IS a movie, and I just played it. The ending is epic.

Gameplay: High replay value, ridiculously fun combat, climbing and acrobatics. Some very clever puzzles. You also get to run over viking zombies with a motorcycle!

Overall: I'm completely blown away and very surprised by this grotesquely underrated game. I have no clue what the reviewers were smoking giving this game an 80 average on metacritic, but they better drop it, because this game should have a 90 on average at the bare minimum. At least most of them were honest enough to admit it's the best of the series.

When Core Design were canned in favour of Crystal Dynamics 3 years later, thats when it got back on track.
Yeah, that would explain it, because I remember the Core Design games were godawful frustrating, and nothing like this in fluid gameplay and immersion.

Dragon Age and Protype at a discount for those interested.
http://store.steampowered.com/

Some random impulse purchases I made recently:
- Jedi Knight Collection $10 (http://store.steampowered.com/sub/2103/)
- Shadowgrounds Pack $4 (http://store.steampowered.com/sub/552/)
- Prince of Persia Sands of Time $5 (http://store.steampowered.com/app/13600/)

I'll probably get that indie puzzle pack (http://store.steampowered.com/sub/2573/) and Torchlight (http://store.steampowered.com/app/41500/) as well. Indigo Prophecy (http://store.steampowered.com/app/9740/) also looks interesting.

Edit - regarding earlier excitement. Star Wars Premier Pack (http://store.steampowered.com/sub/2660/[/url) showed up for an unbelievable 10 euro / dollars for a few minutes, until they fixed the price (must have been a typo). It's now at $25/23 euro, so now it's probably not even worth it. Jedi Knight Pack (http://store.steampowered.com/sub/2103/) is still the best Star Wars deal.

Edit 2 - To expand on this, point, some wise words from the interweb:

The Star Wars regular "package" price actually adds $1.09 to the price if you bought all the games individually. Granted, this is 50% off, but its nowhere near as good as a lot of the other package deals.

Dec 26th, 2009, 12:33:05 PM
Indigo Prophecy is... fun for the first half of the game. The story gets a bit zany later on, but at the current price it's worth picking up, for sure. Be warned though, it's more of an interactive movie than a game, and there are "Simon Says" sequences at some points. I would give it something like 7/10.

Here's the 'Fans thread about the game: http://www.sw-fans.net/forum/showthread.php?t=13528&highlight=indigo+prophecy (short and sweet)

Yeah, that's pretty much what I expect from Indigo Prophecy based on what I heard from others, seen on youtube and read. It's only 3 euro though, so it's worth a try.

I played Torchlight (http://store.steampowered.com/app/41500/) only for a little bit, but enough to realize it's a fantastically fun game. Everyone should jump on todays offer of $5/4 euro for Torchlight. That's a laughable price for the entertainment value. I highly recommend it!

What, it's that bad? It seems to get decent enough reviews? (http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/pc/commandandconquerredalert3) If you can point me to another RTS game with co-op campaign, please do! I've been looking for a RTS with co-op.

Edit: Would you suggest I wait for C&C4 (http://www.commandandconquer.com/) for a co-op RTS game?

I never played the co-op mode on Red Alert 3. I had a good go at the game for a period of time and I thought it was awful, for all kinds of reasons, it felt like a step backwards from it's predecessor for a start. In my opinion, it can't hold a candle to C&C3 or it's expansion, Kane's Wrath. Consequently, I have plenty of hope and expectation for the fourth installment in the series when it's released.

Yog
Jan 2nd, 2010, 04:08:58 PM
Yeah, what I find appealing is the idea of playing with a friend using voice chat and team work to play through a campaign. There are tons of great RTS games, including C&C3 / Kane's Wrath that you mentioned, but I am bored to death of the genre, and like to try something different. There are no RTS games other than this with co-op mode that I am aware of.

One of my pet peeves of computer gaming is the exaggerated focus on first person shooters for co-op mode. Why should FPS games have all the co-op fun? Bloody unfair, if you ask me.

Yog

Yes, but you'd first have to spend 45 euro to preorder Bishock 2, and Bioshock has been up on Steam for $5 / 5 euro twice now... :p

As good as Bioshock 2 is probably going to be, there is absolutely no way I'd buy it at release. I'd wait a year or so until it drops to budget price. It's not like there is a lack of first person shooters or games in general to play until then, and I also still play EVE Online. So many damn distractions. In fact, I'm very happy they slacked down on some of the deals after the Christmas holiday sales. That was just too many temptations, so it feels good with a break.

If you split it 4 ways though, it is kinda almost worth it.

I still do not understand the hype around the bioshock franchise. Yes Bioshock was a good and solid game but I feel about this game like most people feel about Assassins Creed 1(I love AC 1&2):
Bioshock wasted a lot of potential in my opinion and I can't see how Bioshock 2 is going to change anything in this department.

I hate to rant about games but I have not seen anything in this franchise that has been done better before:
-Deus Ex had real choices that did not only determine which of 3 videos you would watch before the credits roll.
-Requiem, Wheel of Time and Jedi Knight 1 had magic in it and it had a lot more intresting powers than a better rocket launcher, a gravity and a stun gun in many iterations
-Why make a game underwater when you never have to escape the water or have a little diving trip? Water is just eye-candy and another form of "invisible walls" in this game...Ok there is a chain lightning game mechanic.
But none of those tubes every breaks under fire and flood a whole corridor...
-Not enough enemy diversity in looks. Don't get me wrong there is a enemy diversity in this game but basicly they all look the same and they are killed in the same way: Stun with ice or lightning (depending on their stun immunity) and then use the wrench.
-Big Daddies are great the first few times you meet them but after a while you will kill them with the same tactic over and over again. There is not a single good Bossfight in this game.

Like I said a good game, a solid art design but no game of the year or genre defining experience and a lot of wasted potential.

Maybe I will check Bioshock 2 out when it gets some good reviews.

Personally I love the atmosphere and art direction of BioShock. On top of that, I am a sucker for dystopian futures (as opposed to post-apoc) so the Ayn Rand schtick pushes all my buttons. It wasn't the gameplay that grabbed me but the world of the game.

Crusader
Jan 20th, 2010, 04:29:52 PM
Maybe my expecations were too high but in the end I prefer hard and challenging gameplay. Infact the more I die the more I like a game.

You are right on the art direction. The era Bioshock was set in had a unique understanding of art and design that I like as well.

It's also being constantly improved and updated. Not to mention, you get a beta spot for the upcoming multiplayer expansion pack. God, I wish I'd gotten that Crysis Complete deal when it was on offer. At the moment it's £29.99 for the complete pack, or £19.99 for Crysis and Crysis: Warhead individually. I did see Crysis for £10 in Gamestation. While I'm tempted to get it, I loathe to shop there on general principle - the staff are so unfriendly in both the one's I've been to. I can't wait until my new graphics card arrives (Radeon HD 5870) so I can play that along with the Stalker games on the highest settings. I'll be getting Just Cause 2 for sure!

If anybody has either of the first two Stalker games on Steam already, you get £5 off Stalker: Call of Pripyat, making it £15 as opposed to £20 on Steam or even £30 in the shops!

Star Wars Empire at War Gold Pack
http://store.steampowered.com/app/32470/
Command or corrupt an entire galaxy in the definitive Star Wars strategy collection. It is a time of galactic civil war. Will you take up the reins of the Rebellion, assume control of the Empire, or rule the Star Wars Underworld?

Peter McCoy
Jun 3rd, 2010, 12:35:49 PM
Wrong, wrong, wrong. It's not the definitive Star Wars strategy colleciton. I can honestly say it's nowhere nearly as rewarding and enjoyable to play as Supremacy/Rebellion. people may hate it's dated looks, but there's no denying how addictive the gameplay is. I'm incapable of having a quick go for an hour - I load it up with that intention but all of a sudden the sun has gone down and it's almost time to get up for work. I love games that can do that to me.

But Empire at War was still kinda fun, looks really good, nice space battles. But it feels empty after having experienced Supremacy.

I just bought both of those games. I already had Oblivion GOTY edition but now I have it with all the DLC. And similarly, I did have Fallout 3 but now I have the lot :) Awesome!

Peter McCoy
Jun 13th, 2010, 09:55:45 AM
By the grace of Talos! The DLC is awesome. Just ventured up to Frostcrag Spire - just brilliant. I can't wait to kit it out with the extras you can purchase to make it functional. There's an altar of spellmaking, an altar of enchanting, portals to all mage guilds, an underground vault to store your gear, a herb garden with all kins of herbs found throughout Cyrodil AND Oblivion. Very very cool. I haven't checked out the other ones yet - there's a pirate cave with a ship there to use as a home of your sneaky-inclined, as well as Battlescorn Castle for the warrior-types, but I think you have to fight off the attackers to claim it.

The furthest I've ever gotten with the plot in Oblivion is getting to Cloud Ruler Temple with Martin, though I did close quite a few gates and raid some dungeons beyond that. But after losing my save data when I put Windows 7 on my PC, I've started from scratch. But I have a feeling I'll enjoy it even more now.

I've got Fallout all installed and ready, so I can choose between ye olde lush fantasy world or retro sci-fi destroyed wasteland world depending on my mood.

Thanks for bringing these awesome deals to my attention Yog!

It's EA week on steam, and apparently, Valve dropped the ball (http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showpost.php?p=15441362&postcount=4090) on the identity of the deals.

Monday it's Crysis / Warhead at -50% (deal is still up)

Tuesday: Military Day (Battlefield Bad Company 2!)
Wednesday: Racing Day
Thursday: C&C Day
Friday: Dead Space, Mirror's Edge, and Spore
Saturday: Mass Effect Day
Sunday: Dragon Age Day

My prediction is, these will be 50% cuts for most, but 66% or more is possible for some of these deals.

Yog
Jun 15th, 2010, 09:09:50 AM
Yeah, no kidding.

Why pay full price for boxed versions at launch, when you can have it all in a nice media library which automatically installs the necessary updates, connects you to your gaming friends, and for hilarious low prices. That is how you fight piracy, delivering a good enough service at such reasonable costs that no one bothers to pirate. Steam and their deals is the best thing that ever happened to PC gaming. :)

As Yog mentioned, 2K Games (the publisher, not that number of games lol) are on offer at varying discounted prices.

It's pay day for me on Tuesday so I'll be acquiring the DLC for Borderlands at -25% :-) One of the packs gives you a bank to store your gear in, and another increases the Level cap from 50 to 61. Coolies!

And if you missed Bioshock 2's offer of -75%, it's still got a 25% reduction as part of the summer sale's 2K Games deals.

If anybody else took up the awesome Max Payne deal the other day, a word of warning. There appears to be an issue with Windows Vista and Windows 7. Sound effects and speech play fine, but music and Max's monologue's do not. However, if you Google there is a batch file a fan has created that converts three files and resolves the issue. If anybody is in this situation PM me and I can link it.

It worked a treat for me on Windows 7 64-bit, and I am now thoroughly enjoying another journey through this awesomely gritty noir classic.

^^ could not agree more about Torchlight. I even gifted a copy to Droo last Christmas, but I don't think he even tried it yet.. :twak

There are a lot of great deals today though. Literally everything is a great deal except for that guild game.

So far, I'm getting:

FlatOut (http://store.steampowered.com/app/12360/) -90% 1.90 euro. Ridiculous crashes, stunts and explosions? And for 2 bux?? Sign me on! (Youtube carnage (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7WlHry98-OI))

Shatter (http://store.steampowered.com/app/20820/) -75% 2 euro. I heard some fantastic things about this innovative breakout game, so it is a must buy, especially at that price.

The Void (http://store.steampowered.com/app/37000/) -75% 5 euro. This is just too weird not to try. It also received some great WOM at the SA steam thread last time it was on sale.

Introversion Complete Pack (http://store.steampowered.com/sub/4603/) -87% 5 euro. I mainly got this for Uplink and Defcon, but even the other two are supposed to be very good.

I already have L4D, but at $5, it is one hell of a deal for SWFans people who might want to join our multiplayer sessions.

Red Faction Guerilla is supposedly on sale for Americans, if you fancy the idea of becoming a Space Asshole (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IcUBI-YVRY8)..

Stuff that I have on hold until last day of sale:
Call of Duty Pack (http://store.steampowered.com/sub/4594/) -78% 28 euro

So yeah, this sale is every bit as good as the Christmas Sale. Yesterday, they put GTA IV up for 7 euro or something, although I already have it.

Keep your eyes open for great deals! :)

Peter McCoy
Jun 30th, 2010, 05:36:43 PM
It's bloody addictive. Collecting gems, transmuting into better gems, socketing items, gearing up, killing enemies, getting better loot, killing bigger enemies, swinging bigger axes, launching bigger spells - it's recycled and embellished every step of the way but it's just so much fun!

I'm playing as a Berserker at the moment and it's soooo satisfying when you use Stampede to hurl yourself into a group of enemies and then bash the lot of them with a single swing of your axe - see them fly!

Yeah, I am happy as well. I have more than 100 games in my library, and really need to play more of these before purchasing new ones. It's time to show some restraint for once, even though several deals were tempting. It's not like I need more games now.

From now on, I have a golden rule when it comes to Steam: Only bother with 75% cuts or better. Games such as Dragon Age, Mass Effect 2 etc, will be back at even bigger price cuts some day. As for Just Cause 2, I can get the CD key on e-bay for like $10, because those are bundled with nVidia cards.

I do plan to get the Call of Duty pack before the end of sales though, because I've been waiting for them to cut prices on that forever. Infinity Ward is the Uncle Scrooge of the video game industry.

If I have the same trouble I'll see What I can find. Might be worth checking the official game forums since it may be a known issue that itn't specific to the Steam version.

Awesome game! One of my favourite survival horrors! And the use of vacuum and no-gravity environments is just fantastic. You can't always cautiously make your way down a corridor with your eye on every shadow when your oxygen is running out. :)

Does your sex life normally involve losing limbs as well? Then I can recommend it to you :D

I have played Dead Space before, but only with a friend in the room... having both of us shriek in terror made it less scary ^_^;

It's Ubisoft week at the minute: http://store.steampowered.com/sale/ubisoft_week

Right now, the Assassin's Creed games are on at 66% discount (except for Brotherhood, which is at 33% discount)

Also worth checking out and on sale: Samorost2, the sequel to free browser based game Samorost1 is a short point-and-click adventure in which you must help out a little space gnome as he searches for his dog, which has been taken away by aliens. http://store.steampowered.com/app/40720/?snr=1_4_4__43
