Since i've already mentioned one incarnation of the Saint/Elf, I'm originally of Dutch origin (now living in the US) and December 5th/6th has come/gone, thought i'd throw out some information about the incarnation and debate around the version of the legend I grew up with.

There is always the difficulty with preserving tradition versus our evolving perceptions. Things are never easy, especially with legends many wish to keep ans share with their children. Abandoning the story altogether will just not do...sigh. Chimney soot like Irish kids don? :/

I'm an atheistic-agnostic, myself, but can appreciate the security and sense of belonging some people find in living their lives through interpreting, reflecting upon and putting to use in their own lives the connected religious history many of us share. I just find my own inspiration more through the stories, and all that have spun out of them, as a sort of inspired history of our struggle to understand our world better that I carry on in my own way, not in the idea that, religion has literal answers. *

Little Gabby seems to be on the road to recovery and now we can all breathe a little easier again. The worste has passed. Being a parent often seems to be filled with unexpected worry one would rather imagine won't be there ar that one will be on top of. The actual experience is both more wonderful and confusing than the sums of ones imaginings.

Maybe not so quickly,actually, because as natural when a close loved one has taken ill and you are a caretaker... his mother and I have now both been showing symptoms the last day or so: mainly the snifflies, weakness and some tummy rumblings/ (very slight case of another symptom that Sheila (mommy) would KILL me if I actualy typed). Primarily just the two former for me so far, mommy all. We know what is probably coming, probably within the next 24 hours! :x We have seen it, we can still TASTE it. :yum There are stains that will never come clean except through the power of inburninoration. Hopefully it won't be as bad as little one had, though that sounds pretty crass... please make the suffering quick, we begs. (Hopefully some of the meds we got in preperation will reduce the time/ severity. It's too bad there was not really a safe "magic wand" for Gabs, because of her age. These last few days have been terrible. It's been wait, worry and support as best we can, monitoring temperature, giving fluids, checking her airways. We can treat treat the symptoms, but nothing like some of the stuff that is approved for older kids/adults. :/ )

This is going to get very ugly folks, and because i'm utterly confused and perplexed by you all, I felt like I needed to share this pivotal moment of uneasy tension with you , before the storm, while i'm sure I can still drag myself away to the keyboard, without fear of borking all over the 'puter.

I've been rather lucky, actually, which I am thankful for. For me the 'rain' has stopped before it really began, a few scattered showers that cleared up within a day. My sig. other, no such luck. Frequent showers with some sirly thunderclaps. Mercy... the things we do for love.

I'm going to dread seeing my energy bill. Normally I try to conserve as much as possible. Yet, having a small child gives a different priority. Little One must be comfortable. :)

Soon, when it warms a bit, we'll transition to a more efficient system. We'll start building a small straw/adobe cottage behind our house that is angled and partly buried to take advantage of geothermal energy and energy from the sun. We're currently doing a solar index/energy audit to see what our minimum/maximum uses are and how we might better our usage. Hopefully we can take advantage of some of the newer PV panels/films that are trickling out and help nip this energy monkey in the butt.
