Known as "Nate", R2-N8 is an Astromech unit owned by Chir'daki, a renowned Bounty Hunter and Black Sun Lieutenant. His primary function is to act as the Navigator and repair droid aboard Chir'daki's Yacht - the Blue Shadow - but the Droid has also recieved various modifications over the years to better assist his master in other areas of his work.

Nate features additional armour plating over much of his body, and has been modified with concealed weapons, as well as compartments in which Chir'daki can conceal weapons for his own use. Annoyed that the droid was thwarted by stairs, Chir'daki invested in a few extra upgrades for the droid, including retractable thrusters in his 'legs' that would allow him brief bursts of flight. The droid also posesses sophisticated slicing equipment to help with breaking and entering, and functions as a portable data terminal with information on Nate's latest mark, current Black Sun operations, and other sensitive data. As a result, Chir'daki has installed a secure memory core that is heavily encrypted for the storage of such data, with various tamper circuits connected that will cause a memory purge should anyone attempt to access or remove the core. Fitting a restraining bolt will also achieve the same effect, and the droid can be instructed to initiate a purge 'manually', if required.

Because of his modifications, Nate is unable to interface with a standard Astromech socket found on various starfighters. Fortunately, Chir'daki's own fighter - Lethan - features an integrated Astromech unit, and the bridge Astromech slot on the Blue Shadow has been modified to accomodate. In instances where he does prove too bulky to interface with ships, he usually adopts a brute force approach, either using his plasma cutter to remove the unnecessary elements of framework that are restricting him, or by interfacing elsewhere and attempting to access the same systems as are accessable in the socket, remotely.
