Moderator User Reputation - An Updated Guide

Sort of like the reputation system, but befuddled as to how it works? BE CONFUSED NO LONGER! These handy facts will help to dispel the fog of wtf that surrounds the reputation system.

Default Rep (what users receive upon registration) = 10 pts

How many ratings displayed in ones User CP = ALL THE RATINGS

For every X number of days, users gain 1 point of reputation-altering power. = 365 days

For every X number of posts, users gain 1 point of reputation-altering power. = 1000 posts

For every X points of reputation, users gain 1 point of reputation-altering power. = 100 rep points

How many posts must a user have before his reputation hits count on others? = 20 posts

How much reputation must a user have before his reputation hits count on others? = 10 rep points (given upon registration)

How many reputation clicks can a user give over each 24 hour period? Administrators are exempt from this limit. = 25 clicks

How many different users must you give reputation to before you can hit the same person again? Administrators are exempt from this limit. = 2 users

Also you can view an archive of your reputation comments, and even see the comments you've given others in your User CP (under SETTINGS).

For the most part it's very straightforward - it's a great way to show your appreciation for other writers on a post-by-post basis, and looking over the archive of rep other people have left for your character is an instant dose of warm fuzzies.

With that in mind, it's entirely inappropriate to extend arguments, even constructive ones, into rep comments. That's not what they're for, and because the rep system is only a one-way street, there's no possibility of turning them into a constructive dialogue that can lead toward a solution. Worse, there's no way a user can delete unwanted reps, so their rep archives will always be marred by negativity. At best, it's passive-aggressive. At worst, it's an attempt to circumvent the conduct policies by moving abusive behavior into a different channel.

For that reason, negative rep comments are not allowed on these forums. We're not concerned with whether you click "I approve" or "I disapprove" so much as we are with the content of the comment. Abusive rep comments, just like any abusive communication, can be reported to the staff of TheHolo.Net. But if you have a problem with a post, no matter how legitimate, the rep system is not the place to air it out.

We're not trying to legislate away interpersonal conflicts. If there are issues you can't discuss in a public thread, you can use private messaging, or you can use email and instant messaging.
