    Books Recommend us some BOOKS

I'll kick it off by recommending the Hyperion series, especially the first book "Hyperion", by Dan Simmons.

oh what a tangled web I weave

The Dark is Rising Sequence by Susan Cooper. An awesome interpretation of Arthurian legend.

The Blade Itself - Joe Abercrombie
This is a high fantasy revolving around several key characters and plot lines that grow into something truly epic, whilst still managing to keep you interested along the way. As this is the first book in a trilogy, it's mostly about setting up the adventure that comes later, but by no means doesn't carry itself as a story in it's own right. You get introduced to a truly detailed world with characters that you'll grow attached to. if you like fantasy, this is a must.

Seeds Of Earth - Michael Cobley
This is a fascinating Sci fi story that carries itself more on it's exciting themes and characters, than depth. The story is a bit cliché, but keeps itself fresh with grand betrayals and big reveals. It broadly follows a human colony that is rediscovered, having left what they thought was a doomed earth thousands of years early. The story grows into one of political intrigue and intergalactic conflict.

Blood of Elves - Andrzej Sapkowski
This is the first proper novel in the famous Witcher series. For those of you who didn't know, the games are inspired by a fantasy series from a Polish author and this is his first book. It's technically not the first book, as there is a series of short stories that came before, but this is a starting point for the overall story of Gerralt and friends. It's wonderfully written and infinitely creative. Read it.

The Travis Chase series by Patrick Lee - The Breach, Ghost Country, and Deep Sky.

I actually read these out of order and started with Ghost Country, then read The Breach, etc. Really good books, of a sort of supernatural thriller type, I'm probably due for a re-read as the details are hazy of Deep Sky. Basically imagine that a group of scientists at the Large Hadron Collider created a breach into another dimension, kept it a secret, and ...artifacts began coming out of it that they cannot understand, but some of them they do figure out how to use.
