Leap Year OOC
This thread is intended to be an alternate future sort of deal. That doesn't mean it can't eventually be canon to our....main storyline? But with things like Aidan time traveling who's to say what future is the 'real' future? Anyway. I'm sort of just playing it by ear and have kept things fairly vague in the set up of the scenario. Please feel free to join in if you want to post (don't join if you're not going to post, that's just depressing ), I just ask that you run any new ideas through this thread first before posting it. Like if you want to say the NY X-Men were all exploded by a bomb, that's fine, just post here first.
I'm not saying they were exploded in a bomb...but I'm not saying they weren't.
Basic points:
Sometime after the LA Riots and the failure of the California Mutant Registration Act (2009) mutants went to war against mundanes (probably 2012?). Or vice versa. It was a few years of open/not so open warfare between factions. At first some mutants fought on the side of the mundanes. In 2016 Anna Fernandez was arrested and incarcerated on Alcatraz, which is where all level 6 mutants are being currently held.
Jane Meyer took Eva and Jamie (6 and 17 at the time) at Anna's request, and took steps to become their legal guardian, but Jamie left as soon as she could because she doesn't like Jane much.
It's now 2028, and mutants live peacably with mundanes, providing they don't use their powers. If they do the GPS in the passive chip they are all implanted with (behind the left ear) is activated and they are quickly rounded up by Vanguard. Vanguard now has a presence in every major city and most minor ones, along with Sentinels for the worst cases, and they do not answer to the police. Most mutants are poor as it is hard to find work, and they live off of welfare.
During the war non-violent mutants were rounded up and put into camps, think the Japanese during WW2.
There is a Resistance, of course, and Eva is part of it. Their big plan at the moment is to rescue the mutants on Alcatraz.
The Resistance is probably the Brotherhood remnants under a different name. The Brotherhood, however, was quite thoroughly smashed by Vanguard.

X Corps - similar to Babylon 5's Psi Corps, but for mutants. Hopefully that's self explanatory.

Name: Zach Jordan
Age: 19 (b. May 2008)
Allegiance: The Resistance. Also, Eva.
Powers: Shapeshifting
Notes on X Corps: Following the civil war, mutants are forbidden from public displays of their powers and are required to wear GPS tracking chips implanted in their necks. However, the U.S. government recognizes that many mutations are potentially beneficial to society as a whole. X Corps was established in order to harness these beneficial mutations and to offer mutants education, employment, and a better quality of life. Mutants who join X Corps are trained to use their abilities in a safe and sanctioned manner and then matched up with a job that puts their mutations to good use. In return, X Corps mutants must submit to regular medical examinations, participate in research programs, and generally do as they are told.
How can you find us? We're everywhere - for your convenience!
So, yes, X Corps = Orwellian nightmare organization. Most of its members are mutants who are just trying to live their lives in peace. The more powerful the mutant, the more tightly they're regulated. Especially powerful mutants may be drafted (forcibly, if necessary) into the security division of X Force, which works closely with Vanguard as a sort of secret police.
