Sports NFL Pick 'em 2011: Week 22 - SUPER BOWL XLVI

It's Super Bowl Week, everypeoples! #1 and #2 may already be set, but there's still one game to pick. So let's have at it:

    Sunday, Feb 5
    NYG vs. NE

But it's awfully dreary to have only one thing to pick, isn't it? The game results will be the only thing that counts for the picks contest, but let's go ahead and throw a few other picks in there for good measure.* Like:

    Final Score

    MVP

    Eli Manning's passing yards

    Tom Brady's passing yards

    NYG team rushing

    NE team rushing

Which player will score the first TD (receiving or rushing)

Whether Chad Ochocinco will have a reception

Whether Volkswagen's Star Wars-themed commercial will be as good as last year's

How good/bad the halftime show will be on a scale of Black-Eyed Peas to that Indiana Jones stunt show back in the 90s. That thing was awesome.

    * Feel free to ignore the frivolous, just for fun picks if you so desire. You killjoy.

I just wish they'd ban Go Daddy from buying ad space because their commercials are always the worst.

VW, I love you. Even though I can't embed your teaser video here.

    http://youtu.be/6ntDYjS0Y3w

And then there's the extended game day ad....

    <object width="640" height="360"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/0-9EYFJ4Clo?version=3&amp;hl=en_US&amp;rel=0"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/0-9EYFJ4Clo?version=3&amp;hl=en_US&amp;rel=0" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="640" height="360" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true"></embed></object>

As for the game, I'm picking the Giants.

And as for the halftime show, I'm planning on taking a really extended bathroom break during it.

Just so happens the only two teams I despise more than NE are the NYG and PHI, so I'm picking NE to win.

    As for our new unofficial annual Superbowl Frivoles&Giggles contest;

Final Score: NE 37, NYG 27.

    MVP: Tom Brady

    Eli Mannings Passing Yards: 337

    Tom Brady's Passing Yards: 411

    NYG Team Rushing: 97

    NE Team Rushing: 138

    NE DEF Sacks: 3

    NYG DEF Sacks: 2

NE Penalties: 5 for 55 yards

NYG Penalties: 7 for 135 yards

First TD Scored: Some NE Reciever

    Chad Occoro: No.

    Volkswagon: Maybe

    Half Time Show: 5.5

  5. #5
Okay, let's give this a try:

    NYG 27, NE 24

MVP: Victor Cruz exploits New England's no-name secondary.

Eli Manning's passing yards: 280 yards, 2 TDs, 1 INT

Tom Brady's passing yards: 333 yards, 3 TDs, 0 INT

NYG team rushing: 110, 1 TD

NE team rushing: 80, 2 lost fumbles

First TD: Aaron Hernandez on NE's first possession

Whether Chad Ochocinco will have a reception: Nope

Whether Volkswagen's Star Wars-themed commercial will be as good as last year's: Probably, since I didn't actually think last year's was anything special.

Halftime Show: This is also known as my bathroom break.

    Eli Manning's passing yards: 300

    Tom Brady's passing yards: 330

    NYG team rushing: 200

Whether Volkswagen's Star Wars-themed commercial will be as good as last year's: If done right yes.

How good/bad the halftime show will be: I'll say a five.

Congrats to Kyran for correctly guessing the final score.

Missed the first 45 minutes of the game because I had to work, and then most of what I saw ended up being kind of dull. But what a beautiful ending!

Quickly stolen from a FB friend:

Wes Welker's dropped pass was the biggest play in the game.

That was probably the most boring, lackluster close Super Bowl game ever.

  15. #15
Wow, what a game! Even in an era of incredibly exciting Super Bowls, this one stands out. Another circus catch by a Giants receiver, another clutch drive by Eli Manning, another yeoman's effort by Tom Brady, and a much closer last-ditch effort by the Patriots as the final seconds ticked away. Both teams have a lot to be proud of, and as much as I dislike the Patriots, they have given us some incredible football to watch over the years. Congratulations Giants on an incredible postseason run followed by just as incredible a championship effort!

So, let's tally up those final results...

    Picked the Giants
    Rutabaga
    Dragon
    Nathanial K'casnce
    Kyran O'Hurn

    Picked the Patriots
    Park Kraken
    Jedi Master Carr
    Miranda Tarkin
    Aurelias Kazaar

So, most of the spots are already set, but let's go ahead and rack up the final tally for the 2011 season:

    1. jjwr: 183-84

    2. Kyran O'Hurn: 179-88
    3. Rutabaga: 175-92
    4. Yog: 172-95
    4. Dragon: 172-95
    6. Miranda Tarkin: 171-96
    7. Figrin D'an: 170-97
    7. Morgan Evanar: 170-97
    7. Jedi Master Carr: 170-97
    10. Park Kraken: 169-98
    11. Nathanial K'cansce: 167-100
    12. Ryan Pode: 165-102
    13. Aurelias Kazaar: 162-105

Congratulations to jjwr and our runner-up, Kyran O'Hurn! It's been a lot of fun, and thanks to everyone for playing!

Tallying up the bonus picks in the next post...

Really? I thought it was incredibly exciting Fig. But I like defense. The only bad thing is my girlfriend's team lost (hence will be unhappy). Joy.

    Nathanial K'cansce: 135 (52)
    Park Kraken: 138 (55)
    Aurelias Kazaar: 150 (67)

Which player will score the first TD (receiving or rushing): Victor Cruz

    Kyran O'Hurn

Whether Chad Ochocinco will have a reception: Yes

    Nathanial K'cansce (3? Seriously? )
    Kyran O'Hurn
    Aurelias Kazaar

And the last two were completely subjective, and I didn't even watch the halftime show, because brisket.

Just skimming the list, it looks like the crown for the frivolous bonus picks has to go to Kyran O'Hurn!

Wish I had put some money down on some of those bets. Though if I had done that, they would not have happened as i had picked them.

Quoted for truth. Though we prefer the term Wizard.
