Movies Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time (2010)

For those who aren't familiar with the video game series this is based on, or just don't know the premise of the movie itself:

Dastan (Jake Gyllenhaal) is a street urchin in 6th century Persia. After showing valor in battle, he is adopted by the king as his heir, so the king's two sons will not fight over the throne. He teams up with Princess Tamina (Gemma Arterton ) to rescue the Sands of Time, a gift from the gods that controls time, from the hands of the villainous nobleman, Nizam (Sir Ben Kingsley)
Here are some shots of the Prince and Princess: http://www.empireonline.com/news/feed.asp?NID=25420

I know - I was surprised at how good/fun this actually looks

Gemma Arterton is sure busy. She is in Clash of the Titans as well. The movie does look fun, I guess we will see if it turns out to be fun.

I saw the trailer for this on the big screen yesterday and I am now even more excitement. I haven't felt this kind of child-like glee about a movie in a while!

I have never played the games, and I have an irrational loathing of Jake Gyllanhaal (which probably stems from one of my exes being obsessed with him, and forcing me to watch everything he'd ever been in).

That said, this movie actually looks really cool, so I'm extremely likely to go see it.

Also, Jake seems kinda hot, which I find confusing.

The two movies that I really remember Jake in - Donnie Darko and Brokeback Mountain - are both great. The latter especially surprised me in terms of his acting ability. Not that Prince of Persia is going to need much of that but it looks like he's done a good job regardless!

I had to watch The Day After Tomorrow seven times. *shudder*

I might return to RPing if those scrumptious Gue twins would come back. Figrin Sandwich, am I right?

I still think Jake Gyllanhaal's best role/film was October Sky.

This does look to have potential as a good action film for a lazy summer afternoon though.

I'm a big Jake Gyllenhaal fan. Ever since I saw him in Donnie Darko I've been of the opinion he has a brilliant screen presence for someone so young and is in fact a really intense actor. I don't think I've seen a film of his I haven't enjoyed and while I probably won't end up going the cinema to see this film, I do have a feeling it will be a lot of fun.

A good movie and it sometimes looks like a real Prince of Persia game...in a good way.
They even have those famous establishing shots where the camera circles around the enviroment and ends at the prince like at the beginning of a stage.

It is a typical adventure movie that is telling a nice fantasy story and it shows some believable interaction between the prince and the princess.

I think the best thing about this movie is that it does not establish a sequel. I know this shouldn't be a real plus for a movie but I am so sick of endings that establish sequels.

This movie tells a complet story with a cute ending.

    I thought it was enjoyable!

I liked The A-Team more though.

What a goofy movie It was very true to the source material, at least. The music, the visuals - right down to the swooping camera shots, like Crusader mentoned - and the humour. Pity that it felt lacking in the epic grandeur department.
