It was sometime around 1 in the morning at Doc Cullen's school, and Marty had ditched his dorm. What was he going to do, sleep? Forget it.

No, he was on the roof, having a cigarette as he stood quiet in the night sky. A rolled up comic book was stuffed into his back pocket, and he adjusted his black-frame glasses on his snub-nosed snout. There was still a little bit of chill in the air, so he kept his hoodie on, but it was obvious that spring was almost over, and the nights would start to warm up.

Still, it was pretty amazing. This time of night, the schoolground was so quiet. Marty could "see" for miles, if he flew up a ways. It sometimes overwhelmed him, even still. It also frustrated him, because he sometimes felt like he was spinning wheels at the school.

"You don't look cool you know." Tess said quietly, nodding at the glowing burn of the cigarette. It was a reproof, but the girl's voice didn't hold too much severity; it was late, after all, and she was in a fuzzy frame of mind.

Offering Marty a smile, Tess strode over to stand next to him, disturbing the absolute silence as she zippered up her sweatshirt. Staring at the stars, Tess sighed. "What're you doing up here?"
