Aside from the Lannisters, I think the two characters I am most looking forward to seeing the casting choices for are Sandor Clegane and Daenerys Targaryen. I have never been able to think of a famous face to fit them in my mind..

GRRM says filming begins on October 26 - I guess we will hear lots more casting choices by then!

In the adaptation of the George R.R. Martin fantasy-book series, Coster-Waldau will play Jaime Lannister, one of the king's guards and a ruthless usurper of the previous king. The actor, most recently seen in Ron Moore's Fox pilot "Virtuality," is repped by WME, Impression and Independent Talent Group.
Another addition is Tamzin Merchant (Showtime's "The Tudors"), who'll play Daenerys, an exiled teenage princess.
Also new to the cast: Richard Madden ("Hope Springs") as Stark's eldest son, Robb; Iain Glen ("Into the Storm") as Ser Jorah Mormont, a disgraced knight; Alfie Allen ("The Other Boleyn Girl") as Theon, Stark's young ward; Sophie Turner ("Doctor Who"), as Stark's eldest daughter, Sansa; Maisie Williams as Stark's young tomboy daughter, Arya.
Cersei Lannister is now cast, she will be played by Lena Headey... ooo!
They have cast Sandor Clegane! A guy named Rory McCann. Here he is in a kilt, selling oats:
:3
Khal Drogo has been cast!
This casting continues to please me
Ahhhh!!!!! Jason Momoa is Khal Drogo!?!??!?!??!?!
*swoons*
Seeing him was one of the best parts of Dragon*Con. He bought that same Chewie shirt that a lot of you guys did too.
Haha, no way!
I can't really think of anyone else who could do Khal Drogo justice, unless it was some unknown, so I'm glad they picked him. It's turning out to be a pretty meaty cast, so far. I'm still kind of shocked that Sean Bean is actually involved in this, and Lena Headey (aka Sarah Connor) should be excellent too.
Sean Bean must like playing MAJOR SPOILER: characters who die in the first book.
Good lord Ian McNeice is in this now too! (as Illyrio Mopatis, Magister of the Free City of Pentos)
nothing to see here

HBO has greenlit Game of Thrones and 9 episodes have been ordered.
The premium network has picked up the project for a first season debut next spring (below is the first released photo from the series). Nine episodes plus the pilot have been ordered. Production will begin in Belfast this June.
Winter is near!!!
I have time to read, re-read, and read the books again!
I hope the writers for the show are ready to improvise the 5th season.
