Design Specifications

The Spectre-class corvette is designed for use as an intelligence craft for the Inquisitoriate, though many Inquisitor’s favor the ship as personal vessels for themselves and their squad.

Magnetic docking clamps allow the ship to latch onto other ships as troops to cut through the enemy’s hull using a tight-beam cutting laser and board via a short assault tube located in the ship’s belly.

The point defense quadlaser have been upgraded to more accurate, longer range escort-class weapons. The turrets are mounted on an extendable sleeve and are hidden from view when not in use. They can be fired directly from the weapons by individual gunners, or can by fired via fire-control systems from the bridge.

To be of use for infiltration missions the Spector's armor has been fitted with a camouflage system that mimics its surrounding environment, in space its effect is somewhat reduced, but will still blend in. An advanced sensor mask package is also used to hide electronic signatures.

Technology Explained

-Mk1 “Viper” XV Fusion Reactor
This drive/plant system works as any other modern sublight drive found on virtually every ship throughout the galaxy. As other ion engine systems, the engines draw power from on-board generators. It then creates an internal controlled fusion reaction. The reaction produces charged particles, which are channeled through the ion engine. When the particles are ejected from the engine, they propel the starship. Some ion engines can be converted to use heavy metals, liquid reactants, and other substances as fuel.

The Viper fusion reactor utilizes a unique core set-up. Instead a single reactor ring connected directly to the fusion engines, a main reactor ring sits in the center of two secondary reactor rings. The two secondary reactors are kept off most of the time and are only brought online for short periods of time. When they are running, the overlapping magnetic fields super-charge the main reactor, temporarily boosting power by 300%.

Naturally, normal coolant liquids would be insufficient while the superchargers are running. Instead of pipes supplying super-cooled liquid to the reactor core, a laser-induced optical slurry of ions, produced by the reactor itself, chilled to near-absolute zero to neutralize waste heat. In a sense the harder the reactors are pushed the more coolant is produced, greatly increasing efficiency compared to standard sublight drives, and it is estimated that the super-chargers can be active for up to six minutes before heat build-ups overload the reactors.
Reinforced Crossbracing
Because to the massive stress put on the superstructure while the reactor is supercharged, webs reinforced durasteel have been built the support braces so the ship won’t break apart under the pressure.
