Upcoming Inactive Account Purge

If you are holding onto accounts that you haven’t logged into for one to two years, now is the time to do so. We will be purging inactive accounts from the rolls, which we usually do every now and then but as it’s been a few years since the last time we figured a heads up was in order.

The deletion will happen in a week on May 9th.

Just to clarify - you only need to log in, not post with an account, for it to be considered accurate, right?

I think you only need to log in. Clicking a button like “mark all forums read” also helps just to be totally sure.

I can't remember if I've asked before, but is there a reason this is being done (more efficient database etc)?

I understand if there are technical reasons that make it necessary, but I find it a real shame we're wiping out all these accounts. :(

Cleans up the database and clears ancient image claims from the member list.Tbh I continually save some ancient accounts that were people’s mains or only accounts. Like RealeeFett’s is never going away.edit: this is Lilaena

While I appreciate it does mean that we can't always reach out to people wiith emails like the 20th anniversary reminder, from a security perspective I am not a fan of leaving accounts hanging around that may well have been forgotten or intentionally abandoned. The fewer old password/email combos we have in our database, the better.

I flipped through all - all - of my accounts, afaik. They're all linked to the same email, so I got quite a few 20th anniversary emails, lol.

Deleting those accounts also delete posts? I have several storylines I from yes ago where folks aren't answering emails. Will those threads end up with the subsequent responses removed as well?

When an account is deleted, the posts remain as they are :)

You can still see the username and the post, but the avatar is gone, the user is listed as a Guest and you can't click on their name to view a profile.

Happy to help :)

You can always register a new account, with the same name as an old deleted account, if you ever want to pick up writing a character again. The old posts won't be attributed to the new account, of course, but it's a thing you can do :)

Yeah, we have oodles of threads still up with accounts that were long-ago deleted, so no worries on that front :)
