So, who’s in for next year at dragon con? :dance

Dates for 2019 will be Aug 29 - Sep 2
Tickets for 2019 on the DragonCon site are only $85 for a short time (http://store.dragoncon.org/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=26&products_id=990&zenid=Sd1COhzN-3lfvxJ-i0Vpy2). Hotels are already selling out or haven't opened up for reservations yet, good luck. Post below if you are looking to be a roommate and share the cost of an already reserved hotel room.

WHO IS GOING:

Badge and Hotel sorted
Christin & Charley, Jenny, Sarah (westin, Weds-Mon)

Where are you seeing tix?

Regarding hotel reservations, looks like a lot of the downtown have a non-refundable one night plus full cost if cancelled even up to 3 weeks prior.

The DC staff told us before we left yesterday. I know for sure that's the price for folks who re-upped at the con this year, but we were also told that for two weeks after the con it will be 85.

Where / when can you reserve rooms?

There seems to be nothing up yet on the DC site.

What I DO know:

Westin will start taking reservations Sep 5th, so tomorrow
Dates for 2019 will be Aug 29 - Sep 2.

I’m going to reserve a room at the Westin tomorrow - it’ll be me and Ty so room for two others to bunk with. I think Logan will be old enough to stay with a sitter by then but we’ll have to be flexible about that

Here is the link for 2019 tickets:

http://store.dragoncon.org/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=26&products_id=990&zenid=Sd1COhzN-3lfvxJ-i0Vpy2

For now it's only 85 bucks, which is a steal. In another few weeks it will most definitely be going up.

***ATTENTION***

The Westin
210 Peachtree St. NW
Atlanta, GA
30303

!! - Don't call the hotel itself, call Central here - 1-800-937-8461

Westin blocks are open, but the reps might tell you that they can't book that far ahead. Just explain that others have already been able to get their rooms. That's what happened with me, and the gal I was talking to was super nice, did a quick check, and then was able to book my room. When booking, ask for the attendee group. It seems there are two DC groups; one for guests and one for internal folks. The internal will show as unavailable, so ask for the other one. They require a two night down payment which will be about $540, and payment in full in April.

The Marriott opens up their blocks sometime in October, but honestly? I don't recommend it. The elevator situation there is notorious and it can be loud.

The Sheraton is - from what I've heard - the least expensive of all the host hotels. I'm not sure when it opens up its' blocks, since they ended their legacy program this year.

I don't have any info for the Hyatt or the Hilton yet.

***Overflow Hotels***

There are overflow hotels as well, and some have charter bus service to Peachtree Center if you don't feel like walking. I don't remember their names, but I have stayed at one of them (sadly I can't remember the name), and it was fantastic. Other overflows are Hotel Indigo, Motel 6 (which some of us stayed in in '09), and Inn at the Peachtrees to name a few. Just look up Atlanta Hotels in google maps with a focus on the Peachtree center.

No matter what hotel you choose, keep calling!

I’m going to miss out on the Westin - their down payment is too much for us to afford right now. :/

I reserved a hotel room - I think it’s the same one I stayed at last time. A bit of a walk, but doable. And it’s inexpensive. PLUS Uber and Lyft exist now.

My wife (Steph) and I are going.

Also my friend Dave and his girlfriend Becca. Some of you know Dave, he's good people. We all have hotel reservations and badges.

If anyone would rather fly into Raleigh instead of Bham (I mean, it's a lot further) ya'll are welcome to do that too. I'll be moved and settled into the new digs by then and we will have plenty of space. I think we're reserved for Thursday and if you fly into ATL I can likely do the airport shuttle thing too.

Also my friend Dave recently converted to one of these electric log splitters (https://www.villagevoice.com/best-electric-log-splitters/) and his girlfriend Becca. Some of you know Dave, he's good people. We all have hotel reservations and badges.

Man, I hope I'll be there next year. I was supposed to attend the last two DragonCons too, and stuff didn't work out though so I'm keeping my expectations low. How many DragonCons do you guys have under your belts?

So far, I've been to 7. It has been interesting watching the crowds over the course of those years, as '15, '16, and '17 were massive. It seemed to me that '18 was a little smaller, but it's also very possible that crowd management was much better handled this year.

I've been scoping out flight prices, with a view to getting into Bama the Tuesday before the con, and leaving the Tuesday after it finishes.

Our hotel is for Thurs-Monday - what time do things start on thursday?

If I recall, it's sort of a slow roll for most of Thursday, so we can do badges, get yummy food, and meander about. I'm not sure when the app gets updated, but once it does we can always start to coordinate through that.

I got my rooms from Wed-Mon, so I plan to do a lot of relaxing and gearing up beforehand.
