SOCIETY AND CULTURE
The Leh'Beni are a warrior culture built upon the foundation created during the slave uprising against their Lupine overlords. They revere and idolize warriors, especially those who fought during the uprising, and their entire culture is based upon continuing the war the uprising has started. The ultimate goal is the absolute genocide of every single Lupine in the entire galaxy. Until that goal is reached they continue to put all of their resources toward the war effort. Every child is enlisted and begins training at an young age. Those born with Solfar's Light go to the Academy, and those without are sent to the High Temple. Most resources go to the war effort, resulting in a society based around minimalism and lack of personal want. There are few to no luxuries to be found, but the Leh'ben are extremely proud of what little they do have and take great pains in maintaining their appearances to reflect their purity of soul.
When the Lupines enslaved the Leh'ben they took everything from them, even their names. Instead they gave them pet names, calling them Mr. this and Ms. that. It further alienated them as an enslaved people. Since gaining their freedom they have continued to use their slave names, but as a source of pride. These names set them apart from the conventions of the galaxy and allow them to remember where they come from. As children they are given simple names, usually named after a historical figure or current hero, and when they graduate from the Academy they choose their new name. This name is usually a reflection of their nature, skills, or a name they find appealing.
With little interest in the galaxy beyond their border, except to hunt Lupines, the Leh'ben have few trade relationships and rely entirely on the old kingdom of the Lupines and the rich system of planets and moons they now control to fuel their society. For the most part they keep to themselves, and are largely unheard of in the known galaxy. They do not acknowledge foreign powers and tend to do what they wish when visiting other planets. They feel that they are above the laws of the rest of a galaxy, whom they look down upon an uncultured barbarians in comparison to themselves. They foster a deep distrust of foreigners and put little stock in their abilities or words.
The Leh'ben put great stock in their past. Heroes of the war are revered, never forgotten, and their images cast in stone throughout the territories. Likewise items of historic value are treasured and hoarded, locked away in the Grand Library where only the privileged few may bare witness to them. Tomes of knowledge, accounts of history, and ancient weapons alike are sealed within the Grand Library. The Library is also home to much information, stitched together by the Historians; hunters of knowledge. They have traveled into the known galaxy to accumulate as much information as they can, to bring back to the collective just case any of it could prove useful to the war. As a result the Leh'beni are very knowledgeable of galactic dealings, even if they see their struggles as beneath them. It allows them to better navigate the galaxy when hunting Lupines, as well as puts an ear out for rumors of the beasts' activities.
The Library is overseen by a High Chronicler. The most recent High Chronicler, Mr. Feint, has disappeared from the planet and has been labeled a heretic and a traitor. A new Chronicler has yet to be elected to fill his place.
- Solfar and Yu'nalia-
When they were still slaves the Leh'ben had little to find hope in. The Lupines took everything from them. They held on to one thing. Solfar, the God of the Sun and Light. Both the Leh'ben and the Lupines were capable of developing the force. The Leh'ben contributing their powers as gifts from Solfar, and the Lupines' to Yu'nalia; Goddess of the Moon and Shadows. The Force within their culture is usually called Solfar's Gift, Solfar's Light, or simply The Light. Those with the Light becomes Hunters, tasked with the destruction of the Lupine race. Those born without, the Lightless, become Templars.
- The High Temple -
When the Leh'beni won their freedom they built many temples to Solfar. In the beginning being born without the Light was rare, and these undesired children were given to the Temple where they were raised by the priests; serving as sextons and guards. Today the rate of children born without the light has increased drastically, and more Lightless exist than ever before. Now they are trained to be warriors too, although never to the same caliber as the Hunters. The Lightless now compose the entirety of the Leh'ben army, called the Templar Guard. Those who are not pristine of mind or body instead become laborers in the fields considered beneath that of those with Solfar's Light. Those within the army are often called Templars, and they are trained at the High Temple as children. Several Templar accompany every Hunting Party, and large formations of Templars are often lead by a Hunter.
Leh'beni cultured as a whole looks down upon the Lightless as something born sinful and dirty, as if they had done something wrong for Solfar to deny them his Light. In recent times, especially with Lightless births on an ever increasing rise and becoming more common, many young Hunters do not look down upon them. However, many of the old generation, along with any old families, tend to look down upon the Lightless as if they are worthless garbage at best, and treating them as slaves and cannon fodder at worst.
- The Academy -
At the Academy Children born with Solfar's Light learn the art of war. They begin by learning the traditional weapons of the Leh'ben; those that their people first used when striking out against their masters. The axe, the pitchfork, and the whip. From these they learn the basics of combat. As they grow older they will then learn the now standards weapons; the sword, the spear, and the net. Later yet they be given the chance to learn specialized weapons that are catered to each individual and becomes an icon by which they can be recognized. In addition to combat they also learn to use their force powers, learn horsemanship, play physical sports; all along with a general curriculum. The Leh'ben put a great focus on a full education. The process is several years of grueling training and education that creates well trained Hunters at the end. Leh'ben are considered to be incredible warriors, having to be trained to the very pinnacle of their abilities in order to be capable of battling Lupines.
One of the Leh'ben's greatest weapons is their natural affinity for imbuing items with the power of the force. By focusing the force, or Solfar's Light, into an object it becomes saturated with force powers, causing the weapon to cause incredible damage when struck against a target; either by augmenting the impact force or by releasing the pent of force energy upon impact. To the Jedi and Sith of the galaxy this ability is known as Force Weapon. To the Leh'ben this is a standard way of life. This ability also gives their weapons the ability to sustain contact with a lightsabre without breaking, and allows for a great variety of weapons for each individual hunter. They can also imbue the force into other objects for a variety of effects, such as creating talisman of power. The full capabilities are only just being researched fully, and could be used to create wonderful technology or devastating weapons.
